Australian Research Institute for Environment and Sustainability (ARIES) is an Australian not-for-profit research centre at Macquarie University in Macquarie Park, New South Wales that was commissioned in 2003 by the Australian Government to conduct research that supports change for sustainable lifestyles. It was previously called Australian Research Institute in Education for Sustainability and the first director of the program was Daniella Tilbury. Macquarie University
Macquarie University ( ) is a public research university based in Sydney, Australia, in the suburb of Macquarie Park. Founded in 1964 by the New South Wales Government, it was the third university to be established in the metropolitan area of Sydney. Established as a verdant university, Macquarie has five faculties, as well as the Macquarie University Hospital and the Macquarie Graduate School of Management, which are located on the university's main campus in suburban Sydney. Macquarie Park () is a suburb in the Northern Sydney region of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Macquarie Park is located 13 kilometres north-west of the Sydney central business district in the Local government in Australia, local government area of the City of Ryde. Daniella Tilbury
Daniella Tilbury is a Gibraltarian academic, educator and sustainable development leader who was the first woman in her country to hold the title of university professor. The inaugural Vice-Chancellor and CEO of the University of Gibraltar, Tilbury, who has long been involved in sustainability issues became the first Commissioner for Sustainable Development in May 2018. She was recognized as an honorary don of St Catharine's College, Cambridge in July 2018 because of her scientific and social contributions. Tilbury's international and policy work contributed significantly to the progression of sustainability as a key agenda for the future of higher education and to the development of Education for Sustainability in particular.
