Australian National Netball Championships
The Australian National Netball Championships are a series of annual netball tournaments, organised by Netball Australia and featuring representative teams from the states and territories of Australia. The earliest tournaments took place during 1920s. Until 2005, the championships featured an open tournament, as well tournaments for under-17, under-19 and under-21 teams. However, following the emergence of the Commonwealth Bank Trophy league, Netball Australia decided to end the open tournament. The last under-21 tournament was played in 2016. Netball Australia
Netball Australia is the main governing body for netball in Australia. It is affiliated to World Netball. It is responsible for organising and administrating the Australia national netball team, Suncorp Super Netball and the Australian National Netball Championships. It previously organised and administrated the Australian Netball League, the ANZ Championship, the Commonwealth Bank Trophy league and the Esso/Mobil Superleague. Netball Australia was originally founded in 1927 as the All Australia Women's Basket Ball Association. Liz Ellis
Elizabeth Margaret Ellis, (born 17 January 1973) is a retired Australian netball player, a member of the national team from 1992 until 2007 and captain for the last four of those years. She is the most capped international player for Australian netball. Liz Ellis was inducted to the Victorian Honour Roll of Women in 2006. Early life and education Ellis was born in Windsor, New South Wales, on 17 January 1973. After attending Holy Family High School and finishing the last two years of secondary education at John Paul II Senior High School (now known as St Andrew's College), Ellis attended the Australian Institute of Sport on a netball scholarship. It is responsible for organizing and managing West Coast Fever who compete in Suncorp Super Netball. Netball Australian Capital Territory is the governing body for netball in the Australian Capital Territory. It is affiliated to Netball Australia. It is responsible for organizing and managing the association's representative teams including Capital Darters, who compete in the Australian Netball Championships and The Capital Spirit, who compete in Netball NSW Premier League. Brooke Thompson (born 27 April 1984) is a former Australian netball player. She was a member of the Melbourne Vixens team that won the 2009 ANZ Championship. She was also a member of the Victorian Fury teams that won the 2008 and 2009 Australian Netball League titles. Susan Elizabeth Fuhrmann (born 30 July 1986), known as "the Fuhrmannator", is an Australian retired international netball player. Early life Susan Fuhrmann was born and raised in Katoomba, New South Wales until her parents moved to Perth when she was five-years old. She was an Australian Institute of Sport scholarship holder. Fuhrmann debuted for the Australian national team in 2006, and was also a member of the Australian team that won silver at the 2006 Commonwealth Games and gold at the 2011 Netball World Championships. Joanna Sutton (born 13 July 1986) is an Australian netball player in the ANZ Championship, playing for the Adelaide Thunderbirds. Kimberley Smith (netball)
Kimberley Smith (née Purcell; born 18 June 1982) is an Australian netball player in the ANZ Championship, playing for the New South Wales Swifts. She played for the Hunter Jaegers in years up to and including 2006. In 2007, she played for the Sydney Swifts and was key to ANZ Grand Final victory in that year against the Melbourne Phoenix, playing as wing defence. In 2008, she became one of 18 members in the Australian netball squad, although she was not included in the final team. Smith was selected to be in the initial squad in 2010, but was again unsuccessful in joining the final team. Smith is known for her athleticism, as she's able to play a strong one-on-one style of play. Smith announced her retirement from top level netball on 2 September 2011. Natalie Medhurst
Natalie Medhurst (born 20 January 1984) is a retired Australian international netball player. As well as playing for several clubs in Australia's domestic competitions, she also made multiple appearances for the Australian Diamonds in various international competitions and tests. Netball career Domestic career Born in Warracknabeal, Victoria, Medhurst rose to prominence in 2004, when the then-twenty-year-old had a strong debut for the Adelaide Thunderbirds.
