Australian Estates No. 2 Store is a heritage-listed former warehouse and now apartments at 24 Macquarie Street, Teneriffe, City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It was built . It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 21 October 1992. History Australian Estates purchased most of the homes on the site between 1955 and 1959. With the advent of their modern woolstore, the company utilised the top floor as their main showroom rather than their adjacent 1920s building ( Australian Estates No. 1 Store). In 1978 the property was sold to Service Nominees, one of the Mayfairs group of companies, which leased the floors to various tenants. In 1986, the Brisbane City Council's Development Plan (1986) zoned the building to enable residential use. Teneriffe, Queensland
Teneriffe is an inner suburb of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, north-east of the CBD. In the , Teneriffe had a population of 5,335 people. Teneriffe was once an important wool trading hub and was the location of Australia's largest submarine base in World War II. The suburb was absorbed into Newstead in 1975, but re-established as a separate suburb in 2010. Teneriffe has a generally young and high income demographic, and is one of Brisbane's most expensive suburbs with a median house price in 2017 of over A$2 million. The Queensland Heritage Register is a heritage register, a statutory list of places in Queensland, Australia that are protected by Queensland legislation, the Queensland Heritage Act 1992. It is maintained by the Queensland Heritage Council. As at 5 April 2020 there are 1790 places on the Queensland Heritage Register, including the Story Bridge in Brisbane and the Ross River Meatworks Chimney in Townsville. Teneriffe Village is a heritage-listed warehouse at 110 Macquarie Street, Teneriffe, City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It was built from 1955 to 1957. It is also known as Dalgety & Co. Ltd No 3 Woolstore, Queensland Primary Producers, No 8 Woolstore, and Paddys Market. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 21 October 1992. History Paddy's Market was erected in 1955-57 as the new No 3 woolstore for the well-known pastoral firm of Dalgety & Co. Ltd. It was the second last store to be erected in the Teneriffe woolstore precinct, and the last in Dalgety's complex, which included a wharf and a wool dumping and grain store. History Of Brisbane
Brisbane's recorded history dates from 1799, when Matthew Flinders explored Moreton Bay on an expedition from Port Jackson, although the region had long been occupied by the Yugara and Turrbal aboriginal tribes. The town was conceived initially as a penal colony for British convicts sent from Sydney. Its suitability for fishing, farming, timbering, and other occupations, however, caused it to be opened to free settlement in 1838.
