Australian Clearinghouse For Youth Studies
__NOTOC__ The Australian Clearinghouse for Youth Studies (ACYS) was a not-for-profit organisation funded by the Australian Government Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR). Based at the University of Tasmania’s Hobart campus, the clearinghouse acted as both a publishing house on youth studies and as an information service for youth workers and youth researchers, as well as others interested in the study of young people in Australia. History With its origins in the early 1980s as the ''National Clearinghouse for Youth Studies Bulletin'' based at the Australian National University, the clearinghouse moved to the University of Tasmania after a national bidding process in 1984. The Australian Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) was a department of the Government of Australia. It was formed in 2007 and absorbed the former departments of Education, Science and Training, and Employment and Workplace Relations. A Youth worker is a person that works with young people to facilitate their personal, social and educational development through informal education, care (e.g. preventive) or leisure approaches. All types of educative approaches are not ethical for youth work, examples for unethical forms of education are indoctrinating, inculcating, and brainwashing. Youth workers can work in many contexts and according to the roles they are known as enablers, facilitators, emancipators, animators or could be known by the set of activities they use to reach out to youth. Informit is most well known as an online database that provides access to over 100 databases, some of which provide full-text sources. The online versions of the Australian Public Affairs Information Service (APAIS) subject index, and the Australian Public Affairs Full Text (APAFT) are part of the Informit database collection.
