The Land Warfare Centre WA in Fremantle, Western Australia was a training centre element of the Land Warfare Centre (LWC) headquartered in Canungra Queensland Australian Army based at Leeuwin Barracks to meet the needs of combat training. Having previously been designated Regional Training Centre WA - a sub-unit of Headquarters Regional Training Units (HQ RTC), it changed names when HQ RTC reverted in name when HQ RTC reverted to LWC. The training centre was disestablished on 1 January 2009. The last Commandant of the Land Warfare Centre was Brigadier Stephen Gerard Cain. Leeuwin Barracks
HMAS ''Leeuwin'' is a former Royal Australian Navy (RAN) naval base, shore establishment, located in , Western Australia. In use between 1940 and 1984, the base reopened in 1986 under the control of the Australian Army as Leeuwin Barracks. Ship commissioning, Commissioned in August 1940 as the naval depot for Fremantle, the base was adopted for use as a training facility after World War II, initially for RAN Royal Australian Naval Reserve, reservists and Conscription in Australia, national servicemen, then as the Junior Recruit Training Establishment (JRTE) from 1960 until 1984. There was widespread sexual and physical abuse of trainees at the JRTE, with 10% of reports investigated by the Defence Abuse Response Taskforce relating to incidents at ''Leeuwin''. Land Warfare Centre (Australia)
The Land Warfare Centre (LWC) is an Australian Army training establishment that is responsible for the provision of promotion courses to commissioned and non commissioned officers (NCOs) in an "all corps" setting. It was originally established during World War II at Canungra, Queensland, as the Jungle Training Centre to prepare troops for combat in the South West Pacific Area. During the 1950s and 1960s, the centre fulfilled a similar role, but since then has evolved to provide a broader spectrum of training courses with detachments at a number of bases across Australia. Structure Under the higher Royal Military College of Australia formation, LWC has its headquarters at Canungra, Queensland, and consists of a number of wings, namely: Officer Training Wing (OTW), the Warrant and Non Commissioned Officer Academy (WONCO) and Education Wing.
