The flag of Australia, also known as the Australian Blue Ensign, is based on the British Blue Ensign—a blue field with the Union Jack in the upper hoist quarter—augmented with a large white seven-pointed star (the Commonwealth Star) and a representation of the Southern Cross constellation, made up of five white stars (one small five-pointed star and four, larger, seven-pointed stars). Alex Beck
Alexander (Alex) Beck (born 7 February 1992) is an Australian Olympic athlete. He is a three time defending National champion. Beck was selected to represent Australia in the men's 400 metres at the 2020 Summer Games in Tokyo. He ran a personal best of 45.54 to finish sixth in his heat. At the 2022 Oceania Athletics Championships Beck won the gold medal in the 400 metres race. Beck reached the semi-finals of the 400 metres event at the 2022 World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon, with a run of 45.99. 2022 World Athletics Championships – Men's 10,000 Metres
The men's 10,000 metres at the 2022 World Athletics Championships was held at the Hayward Field in Eugene on 17 July 2022. Summary After sorting themselves through the break, Carlos Mayo took over the point, followed by world record holder Joshua Cheptegei and the full American contingent of Grant Fisher, Joe Klecker and Sean McGorty. Near the back of the pack Stanley Mburu fell to the track, getting quickly to his feet and returning to the pack with a noticeable welt developing on his right knee. For the next 8 laps, Mayo led them through a steady diet of 66 second laps. On the third lap, Mburu was tripped again but kept upright. Next to take over leading duties was Cheptegei's Ugandan teammate Stephen Kissa. This move got the attention of Olympic Champion Selemon Barega who moved into the top group. Ky Robinson
Ky Robinson (born February 27, 2002) is an Australian long-distance runner. Robinson competed in the 10,000m at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, placing sixth in a time of 27:44.33. Prep career Robinson started training for athletics when he was 15. In 2018 Robinson placed fourth in Australian U18 cross country championships. He finished in third the next year. In 2019 he won three Queensland U18 titles in the 1500m, 3000m, and the 2,000m steeplechase. That same year he won The Great Public Schools Association of Queensland cross country championship in 2019 by running 18:12 in the 6 kilometer race. Jack Rayner (runner)
Jack Rayner (born 19 December 1995) is an Australian long-distance runner. He qualified for the 2020 Summer Olympics held in Tokyo, Japan. He ran in the men's marathon but failed to finish due to cramping in both his legs after running 500 meters. Rayner is part of the Melbourne Track Club. Early years When Rayner was about 7 years of age his parents looked for a sport for him. A neighbour suggested he would make a good cross country runner. By the age of 9 he had a coach, Keith Fearnley. A year later he ran at his first national cross country championships. For the next ten years he continued to run nationally mostly finishing just outside the medals. However, when he was 17 years of age he won the national junior 5000m. After school, Rayner was unsure what to do with his life and worked in landscaping for a few years. He still ran long distances and competed in fun runs. 2022 World Athletics Championships – Men's 5000 Metres
The men's 5000 metres at the 2022 World Athletics Championships was held at the Hayward Field in Eugene from 21 to 24 July 2022. Summary The podium from the previous championships all returned. Muktar Edris was now ranked #13 in the world, Selemon Barega #3 and Mohammed Ahmed #4. Olympic Champion and world record holder Joshua Cheptegei was #1. Matthew Ramsden
Matthew Ramsden (born 23 July 1997) is an Australian middle-distance runner. He won a gold medal in 1500 metres at the 2019 Oceania Athletics Championships in Townsville. Stewart McSweyn
Stewart McSweyn (born 1 June 1995) is an Australian long-distance runner. He competed in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and managed to qualify for the Men's 1500m final. He came third in his heat with a time of 3:36.39 and qualified for the semifinals. Here he came fifth with a time of 3:32.54. This time was good enough for him to qualify for the final. His time of 3:31.91 earned him seventh place. McSweyn also represented his country in the 3000 metres steeplechase at the 2017 World Championships. In April 2018, he represented Australia at the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast, Australia. He came 5th in the 5000m final and 11th in the 10,000m final. Oliver Reginald Hoare (18 July 1945 – 23 August 2018) was an English art dealer, described as arguably the most influential dealer in the Islamic art world. Early life and family Hoare was born on 18 July 1945 to Reginald Hoare, a Norfolk landowner, soldier, and official in the British War Office. He was educated at Eton College and then, after travels in Persia, at the Sorbonne in Paris. Joseph Deng
Joseph Deng (born 7 July 1998) is an Australian middle-distance runner. In 2018, he broke the 800-metre Australian record (which had stood since the 1968 Mexico Olympics) and five years later bettered the record again to 1:43.99. Deng also runs sprint distances, with 47.25 over the 400 m and a wind-aided 22.24 200 m. Early years Deng was born in Kakuma, Kenya in a UNHCR refugee camp (first established in 1969). His mother left Sudan to escape the Second Sudanese Civil War. In 2004, Deng's family moved to Toowoomba, Queensland when he was six and in 2010 he moved to Ipswich at the age of 12.
