Austin Gerard Smith
Austin Gerard Smith (born 1960) is a professor at the University of Exeter and director of its Living Systems Institute. He is notable for his pioneering work on the biology of embryonic stem cells. Education Austin Smith obtained his doctoral degree from the University of Edinburgh in 1986. Career and research He then carried out postdoctoral research at the University of Oxford, before joining the Centre for Genome Research at the University of Edinburgh as a group leader. In 1996, he was appointed director of the centre, which became the Institute for Stem Cell Research under his leadership. He remained as director of the Institute until his move to Cambridge in 2006. Austin Smith (field Hockey)
Austin Charles Smith (born 20 May 1985) is a South African field hockey player who plays as a defender for Dutch club HC Den Bosch and formerly the South African national team. In late 2021, Austin Smith announced his retirement from International Hockey. Smith has been a substitute supervisor and teacher in the International School Eindhoven in recent years. Smith competed for South Africa at the 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympics, the 2010 and 2014 Hockey World Cups, and at the 2010 and 2014 Commonwealth Games. He has also competed at the 2005, 2009 and 2011 Men's Champions Challenge. He became captain of the side in 2009. He also joined in the Tokyo 2021 Summer Olympics and played for the South African national team. He retired from club hockey after 14 years with Den Bosch in 2023. Austin Smith (born November 7, 1988) is an American former professional ice hockey player. He was selected by the Dallas Stars in the 5th round (128th overall) of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. Playing career A graduate of Colgate University, Smith played with the Colgate Raiders in the NCAA Men's Division I ECAC Hockey conference. In his senior year, Smith's outstanding play was recognized when he was recognized as ECAC Hockey's most valuable player and was selected to the 2011–12 ECAC Hockey First Team, as well as a Hobey Baker finalist and First Team All-American. In March 2012 Dallas Stars signed Austin Smith to a two-year entry-level contract. In this two years Smith split between AHL and ECHL affiliates Texas Stars and Idaho Steelheads. Austin Smith (born 25 November 1993) is an American tennis player. Smith has a career high ATP singles ranking of World No. 771 achieved on 26 June 2017. He also has a career high ATP doubles ranking of World No. 705 achieved on 3 April 2017.
