AusBBS (Australian Broadband Services Pty Limited) was an Australian Internet service provider (ISP) offering Internet and phone services. It was one of the first ISPs to launch with a specific focus on Australia's National Broadband Network (NBN) which is being rolled out by the Federal Government via the fully owned NBN Co. Providers such as AusBBS have also been referred to as Retail Service Providers (RSPs) since the commencement of the NBN. History AusBBS was founded in 2012 by Internet entrepreneur Rob Appel, who previously founded Chaos.com, the first Australian retailer to sell music over the Internet. Amaysim (branded as amaysim) is an Australian provider of mobile phone plans. Amaysim operates as a Mobile Virtual Network Operator on the Optus 4G network, and specialises in offering a range of SIM-only mobile plans. , Amaysim group had just under 1.13 million mobile subscribers and 13,000 broadband subscribers. The National Broadband Network (NBN) is an Australian national wholesale open-access data network. It includes wired and radio communication components rolled out and operated by NBN Co, a Government-owned corporation. Internet service providers, known under NBN as retail service providers or RSPs, contract with NBN to access the data network and sell fixed Internet access to end users. Rationales for this national telecommunications infrastructure project included replacing the existing copper cable telephony network that is approaching end of life, and the rapidly growing demand for Internet access. NBN Co Limited, known as simply nbn, is a publicly owned corporation of the Australian Government, tasked to design, build and operate Australia's National Broadband Network as the nation's wholesale broadband provider. The corporation reports to two shareholder ministers: the Minister for Finance and the Minister for Communications. OzEmail was a major Internet service provider (ISP) in Australia, until it was acquired by iiNet on 28 February 2005. History In the early 1980s, Sean Howard was the editor of the '' Australian Personal Computer'' magazine and subsequently founded Microtex 666, the largest service provider on Telecom Australia's Viatel service. In 1992, he sold his share of Computer Publications to Australian Consolidated Press and founded pioneering email service Oz-E-mail.
