Charles Joseph Auriol
Charles Joseph Auriol (13 November 1778, Geneva - 25 May 1834, Satigny) was a Swiss landscape painter. Biography He was the son of Pierre-Elisée d’Auriol (1736-1790), a Colonel in the service of the Kingdom of Sardinia, and Anne-Elisabeth Turrettini. He began as a student of Pierre-Louis de La Rive in Bern, then studied with François-André Vincent and Anne Louis Girodet-Trioson in Paris. After a stay in Rome, he settled in Geneva, in 1810. The following year, he married Anne-Jeanne Marguerite Dunant (c.1790-1847), of Genoa. They had two children; Philippe Élisé Auriol (1814–1866) and Louis Philippe Gustave Auriol (1816–1882). His first exhibit came in 1798, in Geneva, followed by 1812 in Paris and, from 1817 to 1830, in Zürich and Bern. ''Auriol: or, The Elixir of Life'' is a novel by British historical novelist William Harrison Ainsworth. It was first published in 1844 in serial form, under the title ''Revelations of London''. Auriol, written 1844, is slightly unusual in the Ainsworth repertoire as the action is entirely couched as a fantasy, so that the supernatural element (which occurs also, for instance, in his ''Guy Fawkes'' and his ''Windsor Castle'') can take comparatively free rein. Auriol Kensington Rowing Club is a rowing club in Hammersmith, west London, England. The club was formed in 1981 by the amalgamation of Auriol Rowing Club which was founded in 1896 and Kensington Rowing Club which was founded in 1872. The clubhouse is on Lower Mall adjacent to Hammersmith Bridge. Rowing is divided into senior squads for oarsmen and women, a novice group and a masters section for those 27+ not entering Senior (foremost adult) races. Auriol (; oc, Auriòu) is a commune in the Huveaune valley in the Bouches-du-Rhône department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region of Southern France. In 2017, it had a population of 11,908. Its inhabitants are known as ''Auriolais'' or ''Auriolaises''. The commune has been awarded one flower by the National Council of Towns and Villages in Bloom in the Competition of cities and villages in Bloom. Located west of Roquevaire and northwest of Aubagne, it will be served by two stations of the Aubagne tramway when the northern Line T extension opens in 2023. Auriol Smith is an English actress and theatre director. She was a founder member and associate director of the Orange Tree Theatre in Richmond, London. She co-founded the theatre in 1971 with her husband Sam Walters, who became the United Kingdom's longest-serving artistic director. Auriol Sally Dongmo Mekemnang (born 3 August 1990) is a Cameroon-born Portuguese track and field athlete who competes in the shot put and discus throw. She represented Cameroon at the 2016 Summer Olympics and the World Athletics Championships in 2015. Didier Auriol (born 18 August 1958) is a French former rally driver. Born in Montpellier, and initially an ambulance driver, he competed in the World Rally Championship throughout the 1990s. He became World Rally Champion in 1994, the first driver from his country to do so. He was a factory candidate for Lancia, Toyota and Peugeot among others, before losing his seat at Škoda at the end of 2003. His sister Nadine was also involved in rallying as a co-driver, while his brother Gerrard was also a former rally driver. Career At the age of 21, Auriol started rallying in an old Simca 1000.
