Aurel Vaszin
Aurel “Dutch” Vaszin (1885–1979) was a carpenter, engineer and roller coaster designer, best known for heading the National Amusement Device company and designing some of the largest roller coasters of his day. Life and work Vaszin was born in Romania in April, 1885, and came to the United States in 1904. At that time, he was trained as a cabinet maker, with a sixth grade education. In 1913 he took a job as a craftsman at an amusement park headquartered in New Haven, Connecticut. He worked on assignments for the Lakeside Amusement Park in Dayton, Ohio, after which he planned to open his own business in Dayton. Between 1919 and 1920, he opened the Dayton Fun House, an amusement park in Dayton. This was later renamed to National Amusement Devices, and produced trains and other supplies for over 400 amusement parks around the country. Dayton () is the sixth-largest city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Montgomery County. A small part of the city extends into Greene County. The 2020 U.S. census estimate put the city population at 137,644, while Greater Dayton was estimated to be at 814,049 residents. The Combined Statistical Area (CSA) was 1,086,512. Based on research, they built a 2-foot gauge miniature train that could be either gasoline or electric powered. This resembled a typical standard-gauge center cab electric train as early as 1922. Vaszin was an early environmental idealist and really pushed the idea of electric powered trains, as safer and less polluting. A young mechanical engineer by the name of Frank Williams joined the Dayton Fun House in the mid-1920s, and later so did his dad and his son. They greatly improved on the concepts that had been previously developed. After World War II the Fun House began attracting worldwide recognition, and supplying amusement parks elsewhere. Chapultepec Park
Chapultepec, more commonly called the "Bosque de Chapultepec" (Chapultepec Forest) in Mexico City, is one of the largest city parks in Mexico, measuring in total just over 686 hectares (1,695 acres). Centered on a rock formation called Chapultepec Hill, one of the park's main functions is as an ecological space in Greater Mexico City. It is considered the first and most important of Mexico City's "lungs". Montaña Rusa (La Feria Chapultepec Mágico)
Montaña Rusa was a wooden roller coaster, wooden roller coaster at La Feria Chapultepec Mágico in Mexico City, Mexico. In 1993, it was renamed ''Serpiente de Fuego (Serpent of Fire)'' but later it was changed back to Montaña Rusa. For several years, Montaña Rusa held the record of list of roller coaster rankings, world's tallest roller coaster. With the conversion of Medusa Steel Coaster, Medusa at Six Flags México into a hybrid roller coaster in 2014, Montaña Rusa was the last wooden roller coaster in Mexico. In 2020, it was announced that Montaña Rusa would be removed from the park. The coaster was dismantled in July 2022. Century Flyer
The Century Flyer is a gauge train originally built as an amusement park ride. It is located on the grounds of the Conway Human Development Center, a residential facility that treats patients with developmental disabilities at 150 East Siebenmorgen Road in Conway, Arkansas. History This train was built in the early 1950s by National Amusement Devices, a manufacturer of roller coaster cars. This company built several of the Century Flyer train sets for use at amusement parks around the country. This particular train set was sold to the Burns Park "Funland" in North Little Rock, Arkansas in 1957. In 1959, the train and tracks were sold to a local professional women's organization, who donated them to the Conway Human Development Center (then known as the Arkansas Children's Colony) for use by the patients.
