Romanian (obsolete spellings: Rumanian or Roumanian; autonym: ''limba română'' , or ''românește'', ) is the official and main language of Romania and the Republic of Moldova. As a minority language it is spoken by stable communities in the countries surrounding Romania (Bulgaria, Hungary, Serbia, and Ukraine), and by the large Romanian diaspora. In total, it is spoken by 28–29 million people as an L1+ L2, of whom 23–24 millions are native speakers. Aurel Guga
Aurel Guga (10 August 1898 – 7 November 1936) was a Romanian football player. Regarded as one of the most talented and versatile players of the early 1920s, Guga was the first captain of the Romania football team. He was also part of Romania's squad for the football tournament at the 1924 Summer Olympics. Early life Born in Temeskubin (''Cuvin'') in what is now Serbia on 10 August 1898, with other sources claiming that he was born in 1900, Guga finished high school in Oravița, before moving to Lugoj. Because of World War I he could not start playing football until 1919, when he was 21. He started at the local club, Vulturii Lugoj, but stayed only one year because he wanted to apply for the Commercial Academy from Cluj. Aurel Rău
Aurel Rău (born 9 November 1930) is a Romanian poet, novelist, and translator. He was born in Josenii Bârgăului, Bistrița-Năsăud County, the son of Iacob Rău and Floarea, née Chibulcutean. From 1942 to 1949 he studied at high schools în Năsăud, Bistrița, and Cluj. He then enrolled at the Faculty of Philology of the University of Cluj, graduating in 1953. In 1954 he became editor of the literary magazine ''Steaua'' (based in Cluj, and headed at the time by Anatol E. Baconsky), and in 1959 he became editor-in-chief of this magazine. During the Communist era, Rău managed to publish poetry of high quality, avoiding too many realist-socialism poems. While Alexandru Piru labels his poetic style as manneristic, Gheorghe Grigurcu considers him to be the most representative contemporary poet of Transylvania. Aurel Constantin Popovici (16 October 1863 – 9 February 1917) was an ethnic Romanian Austro-Hungarian lawyer and politician. Biography He was born in Lugos, Kingdom of Hungary, Austrian Empire (today Lugoj, Romania). The son of an artisan, Constantin Popovici, and his wife Maria, he completed primary and secondary education and studied at the Hungarian Gymnasium in Lugoj (Lugos) (1873–1880), and then at the Romanian Lyceum in Beiuș (Belényes) (1880–1884). In 1885, he enrolled at the University of Vienna to study medicine and philosophy and later transferred to the University of Graz. In 1891, he became one of the leaders of the National Romanian Party and one of the editors of ''Tribuna''. Aurel Percă (born August 15, 1951) is a Romanian prelate of the Catholic Church who was named Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Bucharest, Archbishop of Bucharest on 21 November 2019. He served as auxiliary bishop of Roman Catholic Diocese of Iași, Iași from 1999 to 2019. Biography Born in Săbăoani, Neamț County, he attended high school there and completed his studies at the Roman Catholic Theological Institute of Iași in 1969. He was ordained a priest in 1979 and became assistant priest at a parish in Bacău. He earned degrees in Eastern theology from the Pontifical Oriental Institute and in moral theology from the Alphonsian Academy. Aurel Onciul (29 February 1864 – 30 September 1921) was a Romanian pro-Austrian political leader in the Austrian Bukovina, prior to its union with the Kingdom of Romania. He was born in Vicovu de Sus, now in Suceava County, Romania, and graduated with a law degree from the University of Vienna. At the end of World War I, he advocated a division of the province of Bukovina along ethnic lines, into a Romanian-controlled southern Bukovina, and a Ukrainian-controlled northern Bukovina. The borders envisioned by Onciul and his Ukrainian counterparts correspond roughly to the present Romanian–Ukrainian borders in Bukovina. Aurel Krause (December 30, 1848 – March 14, 1908) was a German geographer known today for his early ethnography of the Tlingit Indians of southeast Alaska, published in 1885. Krause was born in Polnisch Konopath near Schwetz, West Prussia. He and his brother Arthur Krause were employed by the Geographical Society of Bremen in Germany when they conducted ethnological research in Siberia, followed by Aurel Krause's mostly solo research with the Tlingit of Klukwan, Alaska, in 1881 and 1882. Aurel Thomas Kolnai (December 5, 1900 – June 28, 1973) was a 20th-century philosopher and political theorist. Life Kolnai was born Aurel Stein in Budapest, Hungary to Jewish parents but moved to Vienna before his twentieth birthday to enter Vienna University, where he studied under Heinrich Gomperz, Moritz Schlick, Felix Kaufmann, Karl Bühler, and Ludwig von Mises. It was also at this time that he became attracted to the thinking of Franz Brentano and the phenomenological thought of Brentano's student Edmund Husserl. Kolnai studied under Husserl briefly in 1928 in Freiburg. During the early 1920s, Kolnai wrote as an independent scholar with little success.
