Aurat (1953 Film)
''Aurat'' (''Woman'') is a 1953 Hindi movie produced by Munshiram Varma and directed by Bhagwan Das Varma. The film stars Prem Nath, Bina Rai and Purnima. Plot In ''Aurat's'' retelling of the Samson and Delilah tale, the plot begins with an introduction to Adil (Prem Nath), who plays Samson in this Hindi-language version. Adil is a man of gigantic strength who lives in a village with his widowed mother. One day, the military commander (Hiralal) of the king (Ulhas), comes to Adil’s village and informs the villagers that they will need to perform forced labor to build a new palace for the king. During the confrontations that take place, Adil drives the commander and his allies away but, in the process, an old man dies. As Adil cradles the dying man, he promises him he will take care of his daughter Ruhi (Purnima). Bhagwan Das Varma
Bhagwan Das Varma (1907-1962) was a Bollywood film producer and director. He was one of six brothers that were founders/partners of Varma Films, a company predominantly involved with the production and distribution of Hindi language films. After the Varma Films banner was retired in the mid-1950s, Bhagwan Das continued his film production and distribution activities with two affiliated companies: Varma Pictures and V. P. Productions. Shailendra (30 August 1923 – 14 December 1966) was a popular Indian Hindi-Urdu Poet, lyricist and film producer. Noted for his association with the filmmaker Raj Kapoor, singer Mukesh, and the composers Shankar–Jaikishan, he wrote lyrics for several successful Hindi film songs in the 1950s and the 1960s. Hiralal (actor)
Hiralal Thakur (14 March 1909/1910 – 27 June 1981), known mononymously as Hiralal, was an Indian actor known for his work in Hindi films. Known for his performances as a character actor, he was called the 'bad man of the Indian screen' for his portrayal of roles with negative shades. He made his debut with the silent film '' Safdar Jung'' (1930). Hiralal also took part in India's independence movement and became an activist with the Indian National Congress when he was 14. He was later associated with the group of political and social workers that included Lala Lajpat Rai and Bhagat Singh, before moving into a career in films in 1928. After a distinguished career in films for over fifty years which included at least 150 films, he died penniless in 1981. Prem Nath Malhotra, better known as Prem Nath, was an Indian actor and director, who was best known for his works in Hindi films. Nath made his debut with the film ''Ajit'' (1948), and went on to appear in over 100 films throughout his career. He was nominated for three Filmfare Awards, and later retired in 1985.
