Auke Van Der Goot
Auke Sjerp van der Goot (; born 29 January 1952) is a Dutch retired civil servant and politician of the Frisian National Party (FNP). Since 2023, he has served as a member of the Senate (Netherlands), Senate on behalf of Independent Politics Netherlands (OPNL), an alliance of regional political parties. Biography Van der Goot was born in Huizum, a neighbourhood of Leeuwarden, Friesland, and attended the :nl:Christelijk Gymnasium Beyers Naudé, Christian Gymnasium there. He subsequently studied history and economics at the University of Groningen. In 1982, Van der Goot worked on the European dimension of the West Frisian language, Frisian language and cultural policy for the province of Friesland. Between 1993 and 1998, he worked as a researcher at the Fryske Akademy in Leeuwarden, where he conducted research into bilingual and trilingual education. Senate (Netherlands)
The Senate ( or simply ' , literally "First Chamber of the States General", or sometimes ' ) is the upper house of the States General, the legislature of the Netherlands. Its 75 members are elected on lists by the members of the twelve States-Provincial and four electoral colleges for the Senate every four years, within three months of the provincial elections. All provinces and colleges have different electoral weight depending on their population. Members of the Senate tend to be veteran or part-time politicians at the national level, often having other roles. Omrop Fryslân
Omrop Fryslân is a broadcaster on the NPO which serves the Frisian community. Because West Frisian is an official language of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the NPO is also responsible for broadcasts in the West Frisian language. Omrop Fryslân is also the regional public broadcaster for the province Friesland, and they have their own radio station and TV channel broadcasting primarily for the province itself. The ''Leeuwarder Courant'' is the oldest daily newspaper in the Netherlands. Founded by Abraham Ferwerda, it first appeared in 1752. 2023 Dutch Senate Election
An election to the Dutch Senate was held on 30 May 2023. The 75 members of the Senate were elected by members of the provincial councils and electoral colleges elected two months earlier in provincial and electoral college elections. The four coalition parties saw their combined seat count decrease from 32 to 24. The Farmer–Citizen Movement (BBB), which had come first in the provincial elections, entered the Senate with 16 seats. Fryske Akademy
The Fryske Akademy ( Frisian for ''Frisian Academy''), founded in 1938, is the scientific centre for research and education concerning Friesland (''Fryslân'' in West Frisian) and its people, language and culture, this in its broadest sense. The institution is based in the Coulonhûs and adjacent buildings in Leeuwarden. Together with several other institutes it belongs to the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW). The Independent Politics Netherlands ( nl, Onafhankelijke Politiek Nederland, OPNL) formerly known as the Independent Senate Group (Onafhankelijke Senaatsfractie) is a political party in the Dutch Senate with one senator, representing several provincial parties.
