Augustin Iyamuremye
Augustin Iyamuremye (born 15 March 1946) is a Rwandan politician and academic. He is married, and his wife is a daughter of former president Theodore Sindikubwabo. He has been serving as the President of the Senate from 17 October 2019 until his resignationon December 8 2022. Iyamuremye is a member of the Social Democratic Party. Iyamuremye was Senior Intelligence Officer during the Habyarimana’s regime, Minister of Foreign Affairs under former President Pasteur Bizimungu from 1999 until the government's resignation in March 2000 and served as the Minister of Information under Paul Kagame. Iyamuremye is from the Southern Province. He is also a member of the Pan-African Parliament and Professor at the National University of Rwanda. He is a Veterinary doctor by profession. He was the President of Rwandan Senate until his resignation on December 8 2022. Senate (Rwanda)
The upper house of the Parliament of Rwanda ( rw, Inteko Ishinga Amategeko; french: Parlement) is the Senate (''Sena''/''Sénat''). The Senate has 26 members elected or appointed for eight-year terms: 12 elected by provincial councils, eight appointed by the President of the Republic to ensure the representation of historically marginalized communities, four by the National Consultative Forum of Political Organizations, and two elected by the staff of the universities (one public, one private). National University Of Rwanda
The National University of Rwanda (NUR; rw, Kaminuza nkuru y’u Rwanda, french: Université nationale du Rwanda, UNR) was the largest university in Rwanda. It was located at in the city of Butare and was established in 1963 by the government in cooperation with the Congregation of the Dominicans from the Province of Quebec, Canada. Its founder and first rector was Father Georges-Henri Lévesque. When it was established, the NUR had three divisions (Faculties of Medicine and Social Sciences, and a Teacher Training College), 51 students and 16 lecturers. The university suffered badly during the genocide and had to close in 1994, reopening in April 1995. At that time English was introduced as a medium of instruction alongside French. The Pan-African Parliament (PAP), also known as the African Parliament, is the legislative body of the African Union. It held its inaugural session in March 2004. The Parliament exercises oversight, and has advisory and consultative powers, having lasting for the first five years. Initially the seat of the Pan-African Parliament was in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, but was later moved to Midrand, Johannesburg, South Africa. The goal in establishing the parliament was creating a space where people from all states of Africa could meet, deliberate, and pass some policy on issues that affect the entire continent of Africa.
