Auguste Bottée De Toulmon (the Younger)
Auguste Bottée de Toulmon (15 May 1797 – 22 March 1850) was a 19th-century French composer and musicologist. Biography A polytechnician (1817), he had to leave the École polytechnique for health reason and became a lawyer (1823) then decided to devote himself to music. A student of Cherubini and Reicha, he became librarian at the Conservatoire de Paris (1831–1846). He was the son of inventor Auguste Bottée de Toulmon (1764–1816). Works Compositions He is the author of several masses, one oratorio and one opéra comique. Musicology departments traditionally belong to the humanities, although some music research is scientific in focus (psychological, sociological, acoustical, neurological, computational). Luigi Cherubini ( ; ; 8 or 14 SeptemberWillis, in Sadie (Ed.), p. 833 1760 – 15 March 1842) was an Italian Classical and Romantic composer. His most significant compositions are operas and sacred music. Beethoven regarded Cherubini as the greatest of his contemporaries. His operas were heavily praised and interpreted by Rossini. Early years Cherubini was born Maria Luigi Carlo Zenobio Salvatore Cherubini in Florence in 1760. There is uncertainty about his exact date of birth. Anton (Antonín, Antoine) Joseph Reicha (Rejcha) (26 February 1770 – 28 May 1836) was a Czech-born, Bavarian-educated, later naturalized French composer and music theorist. A contemporary and lifelong friend of Beethoven, he is now best remembered for his substantial early contributions to the wind quintet literature and his role as teacher of pupils including Franz Liszt, Hector Berlioz and César Franck. He was also an accomplished theorist, and wrote several treatises on various aspects of composition. Some of his theoretical work dealt with experimental methods of composition, which he applied in a variety of works such as fugues and études for piano and string quartet. The Conservatoire de Paris (), also known as the Paris Conservatory, is a college of music and dance founded in 1795. Like most operas, an oratorio includes the use of a choir, soloists, an instrumental ensemble, various distinguishable characters, and arias.
