August Schomburg
Lieutenant General (Ret.) August Schomburg (born July 3, 1908) was the Commander of the United States Army Ballistic Missile Command, and later Commandant of the Industrial College of the Armed Forces. He retired from Active Duty military service in 1967, and died in 1972. He is buried at Arlington National Cemetery. His wife Fern Wynne Schomburg died in 1996. Biography Education August Schomburg was born in Denver, Colorado, on July 3, 1908. Following graduation from West Denver High School in 1926, he attended the Colorado School of Mines for a year before entering the U. S. Military Academy at West Point. He was graduated from the West Point on June 11, 1931, with a degree in Military Science and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant of Infantry in the Regular Army. The Distinguished Service Medal (DSM) is a military decoration of the United States Army that is presented to soldiers who have distinguished themselves by exceptionally meritorious service to the government in a duty of great responsibility.
