	Aughton, Lancashire Aughton is a village and civil parish in the Borough of West Lancashire of Lancashire, England, between Ormskirk and Maghull. It is a residential area with tree lined roads being found in all parts of the parish and an area of 1,658 hectares. The northern part is known as Aughton village, the south-west as Holt Green and the south-east as Town Green. Demographics and politics At the 2001 Census, Aughton had a population of 8,342, reducing to 8,068 at the 2011 Census. The parish includes Aughton village itself, and part of the Aughton Park estate, which is a southern suburb of Ormskirk, along with Town Green in the south-east and Holt Green in the south-west. Aughton has its own parish council. It is part of the Aughton and Downholland electoral ward for West Lancashire District Council elections and the West Lancashire constituency for the House of Commons elections. It is situated approximately north-west of the market town of Howden and south-west of the market town of Pocklington. In 1931 the parish had a population of 100. It lies west of the B1228 road and east of the River Derwent. All Saints Church All Saints Church, Aughton is located at the far end of the village and overlooks vast expanses of the floodplains of the River Derwent. Tucked away in the village, it can only be accessed on foot through a small gate and field adjacent to Aughton Hall. An historic church, famous for its association with Robert Aske, leader of the insurgents in the Pilgrimage of Grace, October 1536. Aske was executed for treason on 12 July 1537. 	Aughton, South Yorkshire Aughton is a village near Rotherham in South Yorkshire, England, located in the civil parish of Aston cum Aughton, south of Rotherham. The village setting is rural, being surrounded by fields. The nearest settlements are Guilthwaite in the north, Ulley in the east, Aston in the southeast, Swallownest in the south, and Treeton in the northwest. Major roads are A618 running north–south and B6067 running northwest–southeast which cross in the northern part of the village and share a common alignment along the northern of Main Street. Aughton was mentioned in 1066 in the Domesday Book as belonging to three Anglo-Saxon lords. By 1086, it had passed to Richard of Sourdeval, whose tenant-in-chief was Count Robert of Mortain. The main settlement is the village of Halton, or Halton-on-Lune, in the west, and the parish stretches to the hamlet of Aughton in the east. It lies in the City of Lancaster district of Lancashire, and has a population of 2,227, down from 2,360 in 2001. Halton Halton consists primarily of modern housing, amongst which can be found a number of 17th- and 18th-century buildings. It has a primary school and there is a post office and other local amenities including a very successful community centre. The village is on the edge of the new Heysham to M6 Link Road. Halton railway station was on the opposite bank of the river from the village, linked by a narrow toll bridge.
