David Auerbach is an American writer and former Microsoft and Google software engineer. He has written on a variety of subjects, including social issues and popular culture, the environment, computer games, philosophy and literature. His 2018 book ''Bitwise: A Life in Code'' was well received, and chosen by ''Popular Mechanics'' as one of its 30 "Best Sci/Tech Books of 2018". Herman Auerbach
Herman Auerbach (October 26, 1901, Tarnopol – August 17, 1942) was a Polish mathematician and member of the Lwów School of Mathematics. Auerbach was professor at Lwów University. During the Second World War because of his Jewish descent he was imprisoned by the Germans in the Lwów ghetto. In 1942 he was murdered at Bełżec extermination camp. Auerbachs Keller (, Auerbach's Cellar in English) is the second oldest restaurant in Leipzig, Germany. Already one of the city's most important wine bars by the 16th century, it owes its worldwide reputation to Goethe's play '' Faust'' as the first place Mephistopheles takes Faust on their travels. Friedrich Auerbach (23 August 1870, Breslau – 4 August 1925) was a German chemist. He was the son of anatomist Leopold Auerbach and the brother of physicist Felix Auerbach. He was the father of geneticist Charlotte Auerbach. Biography He studied mathematics, physics and chemistry at the universities of Leipzig and Breslau — at Leipzig his instructors were Johannes Wislicenus and Wilhelm Ostwald; at Breslau he was a student of Albert Ladenburg. Frank Helmut Auerbach (born 29 April 1931) is a German-British painter. Born in Germany, he has been a naturalised British subject since 1947. He is considered one of the leading names in the School of London, with fellow artists Francis Bacon (artist), Francis Bacon and Lucian Freud. Life and career Auerbach was born in Berlin, the son of Max Auerbach, a patent lawyer, and Charlotte Nora Borchardt, who had trained as an artist. Under the influence of the British writer Iris Origo, his parents sent him to Britain in 1939 under the Kindertransport scheme (although he has stated it was by private arrangement), which brought almost 10,000 mainly Jewish children to Britain to escape from Nazi persecution. Felix Auerbach (12 November 1856 – 26 February 1933) was a German physicist. Life Auerbach was born in Breslau (today Wrocław) on 12 November 1856. His father, Leopold Auerbach, was a respected physician and professor of medicine at the University of Breslau. His mother was Arabella Auerbach, née Hess. From her, he acquired the talent and love for music that accompanied him throughout his life. Felix was the eldest of six siblings. Ezriel Auerbach (born 1937), also known as Azriel Auerbach, is a prominent Haredi rabbi and posek. Erich Auerbach (12 December 1911, Sokolov, now the Czech Republic – 11 August 1977, London) was a foremost Czech journalist photographer working for the weekly '' Pestrý týden'' and was the official photographer of the Czechoslovak government in exile during World War II. Some of his most iconic photographs were published in Prague in 2005, as a historical record of the BBC broadcasts made by Foreign Minister Jan Masaryk during his wartime exile in London: "Volá Londýn" (London Calling).
