Audubon Park Historic District (Manhattan)
The Audubon Park Historic District is located on five blocks in the Washington Heights neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City, between West 155th Street and West 158th Street, and between Broadway and Edward M. Morgan Place on the east and Riverside Drive West on the west. It consists of 19 large apartment buildings and one duplex house, and abuts the Audubon Terrace Historic District on the southeast. It is named for naturalist John James Audubon, who purchased 20 acres of land there in 1841, at a time when the area was still mostly farms, woodland and the country estates of the rich. Audubon Park (historically french: Plantation de Boré) is a municipal park located in the Uptown neighborhood of New Orleans, Louisiana, in the United States. It is approximately 350 acres. The park is approximately six miles to the west of the city center of New Orleans and sits on land that was purchased by the city in 1871. It is bordered on one side by the Mississippi River and on the other by St. Charles Avenue, directly across from Loyola University and Tulane University. The park is named in honor of artist and naturalist John James Audubon, who began living in New Orleans in 1821. History and features The land now housing the park was a plantation during the French and Spanish colonial periods and early American statehood. Audubon Park, Kentucky
Audubon Park is a home rule-class city in central Jefferson County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 1,433 as of the 2020 census, down from 1,473 at the 2010 census. It is located about south of downtown Louisville and is surrounded on all sides by the city of Louisville. History Audubon Park was developed residentially in the early 20th century on of hilly pastureland once owned by Gen. William Preston, who in turn had been granted the land in 1774 from the British government as payment for his services during the French and Indian War. The land was sold to G. Robert Hunt in 1906, and the Audubon Park Country Club was built by avid golfer Russell Houston. The Audubon Park Realty Co. purchased the land in 1912 and named the neighborhood after wildlife painter John James Audubon. All but two of the city's 20 streets are named after birds. Audubon Park, Minneapolis
The Audubon Park neighborhood is located in the Northeast community in Minneapolis. Audubon Park is one of ten neighborhoods in Ward 1 of Minneapolis, which is represented on the Minneapolis City Council by Councilmember Elliot Payne. The neighborhood is bounded by Saint Anthony Parkway to the north, NE Stinson Parkway to the east, NE Lowry Avenue to the south, and Central Avenue to the west. Stinson Parkway and St. Anthony Parkway are both part of the Grand Rounds National Scenic Byway. Stinson Parkway is also the city's border with St. Anthony. Audubon Park is also the name of the only city park located entirely within the boundaries of the Audubon Park neighborhood. The park and neighborhood are named in honor of John James Audubon, a great American naturalist and ornithologist. Audubon is a neighborhood of the city of New Orleans. A subdistrict of the Uptown/ Carrollton Area, its boundaries as defined by the New Orleans City Planning Commission are: South Claiborne Avenue to the north, Jefferson Avenue to the east, the Mississippi River and Magazine Street to the south, and Lowerline Street to the west. The name Audubon comes from Audubon Park, one of the largest parks in the city, which is located in the southern portion of the district. The area is also known as the "University District," as it is also home of Tulane and Loyola Universities, as well as the former St. Mary’s Dominican College (now a satellite campus of Loyola), and Newcomb College (now part of Tulane).
