Auchlochan is a village in South Lanarkshire, Scotland. It is on the River Nethan and is located near the villages of Birkwood, Braehead and Coalburn. The Auchlochan Collieries were several collieries in Auchlochan and Coalburn, South Lanarkshire, Scotland. Production started in 1894 - run by Caprington and Auchlochan Collieries Ltd and then by William Dixon & Company from the 1930s before the NCB took over in 1947 - ending in 1968 when the collieries closed. Auchlochan Platform Railway Station
Auchlochan Platform railway station served Auchlochan, a village in the county of South Lanarkshire, Scotland. It was served by local trains on the Coalburn Branch south of Glasgow. History Opened by the Caledonian Railway it became part of the London Midland and Scottish Railway during the Grouping of 1923. Passing on to the Scottish Region of British Railways during the nationalisation of 1948. It was then closed by the British Railways Board. The site today The platform has been removed but the alignment of the line and a level crossing gate show its location. George Patterson (missionary)
George Neilson Patterson (born 19 August 1920 in Falkirk, died at Auchlochan, Lesmahagow, 28 December 2012) also known as Khampa Gyau (bearded Khampa in Tibetan) and Patterson of Tibet, was a Scottish engineer and missionary who served as medical officer and diplomatic representative of the Tibetan resistance movement during the Annexation of Tibet by the People's Republic of China. He was married to the surgeon Meg Patterson. Letter of Remembrance The International Campaign for Tibet awarded him their Light of Truth Award on 25 March 2011. Coalburn
Coalburn is a village in South Lanarkshire, Scotland, UK. It is located near the villages of Auchlochan, Bankend and Braehead. Ivy Lilian Wallace (7 October 1915 – 13 March 2006) was a British author/illustrator, artist and actress, best known for writing the Pookie series and The Animal Shelf series of illustrated children's stories. Early life Born in Grimsby, England, the daughter of a Scottish doctor, Ivy's lifelong love of nature was born in early childhood when she accompanied her father on outings into the bluebell woods and flower-filled meadows of the Lincolnshire countryside. Lesmahagow ( ; sco, Lismahagie or ''Lesmahagae'', gd, Lios MoChuda) is a small town in the historic county of Lanarkshire on the edge of moorland, near Lanark in the central belt of Scotland. Lesmahagow was also a civil parish. It lies west of the M74, and southeast of Kirkmuirhill. It is also known as Abbey Green or the Gow.
