Aubrey Weinman
Major Aubrey Neil Weinman, OBE CMZS (1897–10 August 1967) was a Ceylonese soldier, civil servant and naturalist. He was the first Director of the Colombo Zoological Gardens (1947-1962). Early life Weinman was born in Colombo, the son of William Algernon Weinman (1869-1922), a stationmaster, and Caroline Maud née Reimers (1872-1961). He attended school at the Royal College, Colombo, where he was a sergeant in the Cadet Corps. Following the outbreak of World War I, he traveled to England in April 1918 to join the British Army. In November he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Indian Army, of the 9th Bhopal Infantry. He saw action on the western front and was wounded in battle. After the war he remained in the reserves. Applecross, Western Australia
Applecross is a riverside suburb of Perth, Western Australia, bounded by Canning Highway and the Swan River. It is located within the City of Melville. Name and early history The suburb of Applecross takes its name from the Applecross peninsula in Wester Ross, Highland, on the northwest coast of Scotland. Many of the streets in the suburb have names from the area, including Carron, Gairloch, Ullapool, Kintail, Strome, Ardross, Alness, Kishorn, Glenelg, Duncraig, Dunvegan, Killilan and Roskhill. The suburb of Applecross was originally assigned to Lionel Lukin on 28 May 1830. The land was finally acquired by Alexander Matheson, second son of Sir Alexander Matheson, 1st Baronet of Lochalsh, in February 1896. Matheson formed the Western Australian Investment Company Limited and instigated and named the subdivision of the area. 9th Bhopal Infantry
The 9th Bhopal Infantry was an infantry regiment of the British Indian Army.It was raised by Nawab of Bhopal in 1818 near Sehore. It was re-raised in 1859, as the Bhopal Levy. The regiment was disbanned for participating in war against British during 1857. It was designated as the 9th Bhopal Infantry in 1903 and became 4th Battalion (Bhopal) 16th Punjab Regiment in 1922. The Dutch Burgher Union of Ceylon (abbreviated as: DBUC; ), known commonly as the Dutch Burgher Union (DBU), is an organisation of Dutch Burghers in Sri Lanka. It was established on 18 January 1908 by R.G. Anthonisz, Richard Gerald Anthonisz.
