Aub Carrigan
Aubrey Herbert Carrigan (26 August 1917 – 23 May 2012) was an Australian first-class cricketer who played with Queensland in the Sheffield Shield. He was born at Zillmere, Queensland. Career Carrigan, a middle order batsman and part-time medium pace bowler, made his first-class debut in the 1945/46 season but had to wait until the following summer to make his first Sheffield Shield appearance as the competition had been in recess due to the war. It wasn't until his 20th first-class match that he made a century, an innings of 166 against South Australia in Brisbane, although he had previously amassed a pair of 90s. His bowling was used to good effect on occasions and he claimed 14 wickets at 30.92 in 1948/49. During his career he dismissed batsman to the calibre of Neil Harvey and Arthur Morris. Zillmere is a suburb in the City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. In the , Zillmere had a population of 8,967 people. Geography As at 2008, Zillmere was approximately 60% residential and 40% industrial. History The Turrbal people occupied the region north of Brisbane River, including the area covered by Zillmere. With European settlement, the area came to be known as Zillman's Waterholes, named after Johann Leopold Zillmann (1813–1892), a Lutheran missionary who served at the mission station nearby at Nundah. In January 1872, the Brisbane Courier described Zillman's Waterholes as being situated between Cabbage Tree Creek and Downfall Creek. Leo O'Connor (cricketer)
Leo Patrick Devereaux O'Connor (11 April 1890 – 16 January 1985) was an Australian first-class cricketer who captained and kept wicket for Queensland in the Sheffield Shield. He was the first person ever to captain Queensland at cricket and represent them in Australian rules football, a feat later replicated by Aub Carrigan. His son, Brian O'Connor, also played both cricket and football for Queensland. Football Prior to commencing his first class cricket career, O'Connor played briefly with Australian rules football club Essendon in the VFL. Zillmere Eagles Australian Football Club
Zillmere Eagles Australian Football Club (formerly Windsor-Zillmere, North Brisbane and Northern Eagles) is an Australian rules football club based in the suburb of Zillmere in the northern suburbs of Brisbane. The team plays in the QAFA Division 4. It reformed the senior side in 2013 and it was undefeated all year in the SEQAFL State Div 4 northern competition. Zillmere once competed in the AFL Queensland Australian Football League, where it ceased to play in 2008. The club also fields women's (in the AFL Queensland Women's League) and junior teams. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). During general play, players may position themselves anywhere on the field and use any part of their bodies to move the ball. The primary methods are kicking, handballing and running with the ball.
