Atul Chandra Ghosh
Atul Chandra Ghosh (1881-1969) was a prominent personality of the Indian freedom movement from Purulia district, West Bengal. Born at Khandaghosh of Burdwan, he passed law in 1908. He was the co-founder of "Shilpashram" (Rural Industry Development inside ashram) along with Nibaran Chandra Dasgupta. He was the chief architect of "Bangabhukti Andolon". He is famous in the title "Manbhum Keshari". He was active freedom fighter during British raj and he left practicing the law and joined freedom struggle during non-cooperation movement. He was the editor of weekly Bengali newspaper "Mukti". His wife, Labanya Prabha Ghosh was also a freedom fighter and continued as editor of Mukti after his death. Burdwan
Bardhaman (, ) is a city and a municipality in the state of West Bengal, India. It is the headquarters of Purba Bardhaman district, having become a district capital during the period of British rule. Burdwan, an alternative name for the city, has remained in use since then. Etymology The history of Burdwan is known from about 5000 BC (the Mesolithic or Late Stone Age). Labanya Prabha Ghosh
Labanya Prabha Ghosh (1897–2003), also called Labanya Devi, a Gandhian, was a prominent personality of the Indian freedom movement, from Purulia District of West Bengal. She lived for almost 106 years and during later part of her life, was forced to live in a poverty-stricken ashram, her only source of income being a pension paid for freedom fighters. All through her life, before and after independence of India, she fought for justice of common man. The Language Movement in Manbhum was a movement in Manbhum district, present day Purulia district of West Bengal state, during the late 1940s to mid-1950s, to fight for the mother tongue which is a variation of Bengali language and to protest the introduction of the Hindi language in West Bengal.
