Attorney General of Jamaica is the chief law officer in Jamaica. Section 79(1) of the Constitution of Jamaica states that "there shall be an Attorney General who shall be the principal legal adviser to the Government of Jamaica" and pursuant to the Crown Proceedings Act all civil proceedings by or against the Government are instituted in the name of the Attorney General. Jamaica
Jamaica (; ) is an island country situated in the Caribbean Sea. Spanning in area, it is the third-largest island of the Greater Antilles and the Caribbean (after Cuba and Hispaniola). Jamaica lies about south of Cuba, and west of Hispaniola (the island containing the countries of Haiti and the Dominican Republic); the British Overseas Territory of the Cayman Islands lies some to the north-west. Originally inhabited by the indigenous Taíno peoples, the island came under Spanish rule following the arrival of Christopher Columbus in 1494. Derrick McKoy
Derrick Vincent McKoy (born 3 October 1951) is the Attorney General of Jamaica. McKoy was appointed to the post on 11 January 2022 by Prime Minister Andrew Holness. McKoy was previously a commissioner of Jamaica's anti-corruption body the Integrity Commission until he resigned in January 2020. He also has served as contractor general for Jamaica. He was a founding member of the Jamaica Chapter of Transparency International (TI), a member of the executive committee and its first secretary. Marlene Patricia Malahoo Forte is a Jamaican politician. She currently serves as Jamaica's Minister of Legal and Constitutional Affairs and was the Attorney General of Jamaica from 7 March 2016 to 10 January 2022. She served as a Senator for the Jamaica Labour Party from 2009 to 2016, and served as State Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade from 2009 to 2012. Oswald Gaskell Harding (born 3 November 1935) is a Jamaican former Labour Party politician, and the longest-serving senator in the nation's history. He was born in Kingston. Harding was the first person to serve as President of the Senate of Jamaica for two non-consecutive tenures, serving from 1980 to 1984 and from 2007 to 2011. First appointed to the Senate in 1977, he served in the body continuously until 2002, and rejoined the Senate from 2007 until his retirement from politics in 2011. His first period as a senator was the longest continuous tenure in the body's history. Carl Rattray
Raphael Carl Rattray QC (18 September 1929 – 14 March 2012) was a Jamaican jurist and politician. Rattray was born in 1929 in St. Elizabeth. He began his career in law in England before being called to the Jamaica Bar in 1958. In 1969, he was appointed a Queen's Counsel. He was also a founder of the law firm of Rattray, Patterson, Rattray. Political career Rattray was one of the founding members of the People's National Party as well as a founding member and past chairman of the Jamaica Council for Human Rights. Sir Charles Ernest St John Branch KC (2 June 1865 – 1939), known as St John Branch, was Chief Justice of Jamaica and the 23rd Chief Justice of Ceylon. Charles Ernest Branch was born in San Ferdinand, Trinidad. In 1910 he was made Auditor General of Jamaica and in 1921 a puisne judge in the Straits Settlements.
