Attorney General Of Ghana
The Attorney General of Ghana is the chief legal advisor to the Ghanaian government. The attorney general is also responsible for the Ministry of Justice (Ghana), Ministry of Justice. The Attorney General also serves as a member of the General Legal Council which regulates legal practice in Ghana. List of ministers The current Attorney General is Mr. Godfred Yeboah Dame. He was appointed by President Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo in 2021. Gustav Koranteng-Addow
Gustav Koranteng-Addow (1918-1988) was the Attorney General of Ghana from 9 October 1975 to January 1979 under the Supreme Military Council. Early life and education Gustav Koranteng-Addow was born on 25 October 1918 at Akropong–Akuapem. His early formative years were spent at the Presbyterian Middle Boys' School, Akropong–Akuapem in the years 1930 to 1933. He continued his studies at the Accra Academy where he obtained his Secondary Education from 1936 to 1939. Career Gustav took an appointment as Secretary to the akuapim native authority in 1944 before deciding in 1949 to pursue further education oversees to study for his LL.B and make law his professional career. National Democratic Congress (Ghana)
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is a social democratic political party in Ghana, founded by Jerry Rawlings, who was Head of State of Ghana from 1981 to 1993 and the President of Ghana from 1993 to 2001. Following the formation of the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC), which ruled Ghana following the military coup d'état on 31 December 1981, there was pressure from the international community to restore democracy. The NDC was formed as the ruling party ahead of elections in 1992, in which Rawlings was elected president, and in 1996 Rawlings was re-elected as the NDC candidate. Rawlings' second term ended in 2001. The NDC lost the presidency in the 2000 election, and it was not until the 2008 election, that they regained it with John Atta Mills as its candidate. Anthony Forson
Anthony Forson is a Ghanaian politician, lawyer and diplomat. He was the Attorney General of Ghana from 1 March 1993 to 30 October 1993, and Ghana's High Commissioner to India from 1994 to 1997. Forson was called to the Ghana Bar in 1964. During the 1992 Ghanaian General Election, he contested for the Takoradi seat on the ticket of the National Convention Party (NCP) but lost the seat to Tabitha Sybil Quaye. He became Attorney General and Minister for Justice on 1 March 1993 but resigned on 30 October 1993. While it remains unclear why he resigned, his successor Obed Asamoah has suggested he resigned over public criticism of his performance. Augustus Obuadum Tanoh
Augustus "Goosie" Obuadum Tanoh (born 7 February 1956) is a Ghanaian politician and businessman. He was the leader of the National Reform Party, a breakaway group from the National Democratic Congress between 1999 and 2007 and represented this party in the 2000 presidential election, where he garnered 1.1% of the national vote. He returned to the National Democratic Congress with his colleagues from the National Reform Party at the behest and upon appeals made by President John Atta Mills in 2007/2008. Provisional National Defence Council
The Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) was the name of the Ghanaian government after the People's National Party's elected government was overthrown by Jerry Rawlings, the former head of the Armed Forces Revolutionary Council, in a coup d'état on 31 December 1981. He remained in power until 7 January 1993. In a statement, Rawlings said that a "holy war" was necessary due to the PNP's failure to provide effective leadership and the collapse of the national economy and state services. The PNDC was a military dictatorship that induced civilians to participate in governance. Most of its members were civilians. Its policies reflected a revolutionary government that was pragmatic in its approach. Archibald Lartey Djabatey
Archibald Lartey Djabatey was a Ghanaian lawyer and former Attorney General of Ghana. Djabatey hailed from Odumase Krobo in the Eastern Region of Ghana. He received his bachelor of laws degree from the University of London and was called to the Ghanaian Bar in 1964. Following his call to the bar, he subsequently became a State Attorney and later a Senior State Attorney. In 1979, during the third republic, he was appointed deputy Attorney General to the then Attorney General, Joe Reindorf. In 1980, when Joe Reindorf was moved to the Ministry of Local Government, Djabatey was elevated to the status of Attorney General and Minister of Justice. The People's National Party (PNP) was the ruling party in Ghana during the Third Republic (1979-1981). All political parties in Ghana were disbanded following the January 1972 military coup led by Col. Ignatius Kutu Acheampong. When political activities resumed in 1979, there were five parties contesting the elections. The PNP claimed to represent the Nkrumah heritage. Joe Reindorf
Joe Reindorf (1924 – 1996) was a Ghanaian historian, lawyer and politician. He served in the third republic as Attorney General and minister for Justice of Ghana. Early life and education Formerly a pupil of Achimota School, his contemporaries included K. B. Asante, Victor Owusu and R. R. Amponsah. He was a research student in history at Cambridge University in 1951, completing his studies in 1956 and finishing a law degree at the same time. Career He was called to the English bar in 1954. He returned to Ghana after his research studies in 1956 to enter into private legal practice. In 1962 he joined the University of Ghana as a research fellow in history.
