The Nevada Attorney General is the chief legal officer for the U.S. state of Nevada. The functions of the office are set forth in Nevada Revised Statutes, Chapter 228. The Attorney General represents the people of Nevada in civil and criminal matters before trial, appellate and the supreme courts of Nevada and the United States. The Attorney General also serves as legal counsel to state officers and, with few exceptions, to state agencies, boards and commissions. The Attorney General may also work with or help district attorneys, local law enforcement, and federal and international criminal justice agencies in the administration of justice. In addition, the Attorney General establishes and operates projects and programs to protect Nevadans from fraud or illegal activities that target consumers or threaten public safety, and enforces laws that safeguard the environment and natural resources. William Woodburn
William Woodburn (April 14, 1838 – January 15, 1915) was an American politician and a member of the United States House of Representatives from Nevada. He immigrated with his parents to the United States in 1849. He attended St. Charles College, Maryland, studied law, and was admitted to the bar in 1866. He commenced the practice of law in Virginia City, Nevada. In 1871 and 1872, he was the district attorney of Storey County, Nevada. William Woodburn was elected as a Republican to the Forty-fourth Congress, which met from March 4, 1875, to March 3, 1877. He was later elected to the Forty-ninth and Fiftieth Congresses, and he served from March 4, 1885, to March 3, 1889. He resumed the practice of his profession in Virginia City, Nevada. Robert Frank "Bob" List (born September 1, 1936) is an American attorney and politician. He served as the 24th Governor of Nevada from 1979 to 1983. He was raised in Exeter, California. He served as Carson City District Attorney from 1967 to 1971 and Nevada Attorney General from 1971 to 1979. Currently List practices law in Las Vegas with the law firm Kolesar & Leatham, Chtd.
