Attilio Pusterla
Attilio Pusterla (Milan, Italy, 1862 – Woodcliff, North Bergen, Woodcliff, New Jersey, United States, 1941) was an Italian painter. Biography By 1880, he attended the Brera Academy alongside Filippo Carcano, Emilio Longoni, and Angelo Morbelli. He allied himself to the style and subjects of Vittore Grubicy, and resided in Milan. He was a resident of Milan. In 1883 in Milan and Rome, he exhibited ''Effetto di sole''. Also in Rome, he displayed another canvas depicting ''Motterone sul Lago Maggiore''. At the 1886 Promotrice (and in 1887 in Venice) he sent ''Vecchio pescatore'', ''La questua dei poreri'', and ''Dopo una predica'' (After the Sermon). At 1886 in Milan, he sent ''Portrait of his father'' and ''Portrait of painter Gustavo Macchi''. Works Progress Administration
The Works Progress Administration (WPA; renamed in 1939 as the Work Projects Administration) was an American New Deal agency that employed millions of jobseekers (mostly men who were not formally educated) to carry out public works projects, including the construction of public buildings and roads. It was set up on May 6, 1935, by presidential order, as a key part of the Second New Deal. The WPA's first appropriation in 1935 was $4.9 billion (about $15 per person in the U.S., around 6.7 percent of the 1935 GDP). Headed by Harry Hopkins, the WPA supplied paid jobs to the unemployed during the Great Depression in the United States, while building up the public infrastructure of the US, such as parks, schools, and roads. Most of the jobs were in construction, building more than 620,000 miles (1,000,000 km) of streets and over 10,000 bridges, in addition to many airports and much housing. Foley Square
Foley Square, also called Federal Plaza, is a street intersection in the Civic Center neighborhood of Lower Manhattan, New York City, which contains a small triangular park named Thomas Paine Park. The space is bordered by Worth Street to the north, Centre Street to the east, and Lafayette Street to the west, and is located south of Manhattan's Chinatown and east of Tribeca. It was named after a prominent Tammany Hall district leader and local saloon owner, Thomas F. "Big Tom" Foley (1852–1925). Site Foley Square sits on part of the former site of Collect Pond, specifically the smaller portion known as "Little Collect Pond" which used to lie to the south of Collect Pond proper.
