Atpadi
Atpadi is an administrative town of the Atpadi Taluka of Sangli District in the Indian state of Maharashtra. Atpadi is located north-east of Sangli District and shares borders with the adjacent Solapur and Satara Districts. The town has a taluka administrative office (that is, a Panchayat samiti local government body), a courthouse, a police station, a government-run primary hospital, various schools and colleges and a theater. Atpadi's economy is based on the cultivation and sale of agricultural products, with pomegranates and cotton constituting the core of the industry. The town is also home to the Manganga Sahakari Sugar factory, a Pomegranate auction center and various small scale industries in fields such as manufacturing, processing, servicing and repairs. Atpadi is a taluka in Sangli district Sangli district (Marathi pronunciation: aːŋɡli is a district of Maharashtra state in India. Sangli city is the district headquarters. Swatantrapur is a free custodian colony built in 1939 by Raja Bhawanrao Shriniwasrao Pant Pratinidhi "Bala Sahib" of Aundh princely state. It is located in between Atpadi lake and Bhingewadi, in Atpadi taluka of Sangli district, of Maharashtra, an Indian state. History It is believed that during the ancient days, those prisoners who came to behave well in other prisons during their period of punishment were ultimately brought to this jail as a reward. Gajanan Digambar Madgulkar
Gajānan Digambar Mādguḷkar (1 October 1919 – 14 December 1977) was a Marāthi poet, lyricist, writer and actor from India. He is popularly known in his home state of Mahārāshtra by just his initials as Ga Di Mā (गदिमा). He was awarded Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1951 and Padma Shri in 1969. He has written 157 screen plays and over 2000 songs in his career. He was called Ādhunik Valmiki (the modern Valmiki) of current era due to his composition of Geet Rāmāyan (lit. Arun Krushnaji Kamble (14 March 1953 – December 2009) was an Indian Marathi language writer, professor, Politician, and Dalit activist. Arun Kamble, President and one of the founding members of Dalit Panthers of India, worked as a Head of Marathi department at University of Mumbai. He was the National General Secretary of Janata Dal. He took many major decisions in favour of Dalit, Backward Class and Minorities. Shankar Rao Kharat
Shankarrao Ramchandra Kharat (11 July 1921 – 9 April 2001) was a Marathi writer from Maharashtra, India. Kharat was born in Atpadi, the secondary capital of the former princely state of Aundh, now in Sangli district. As an adult, he converted to Buddhism. Kharat was associated with B. R. Ambedkar. He served for some years as the vice-chancellor of Marathwada University. and as a member of the Maharashtra Legislative Council. Ram Naik (born 16 April 1934) is a veteran Indian politician from the Bharatiya Janata Party, served as the 27th Governor of Uttar Pradesh. Political career Ram Naik was a member of the 13th Lok Sabha and was Minister of Oil and Natural Gas in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee cabinet (1999–2004). He was instrumental in introducing Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme.
