Gretchen Hartman (born Grace Barrett; August 28, 1897 – January 27, 1979) was an American stage and film actress. She is credited on 67 movies, nearly all silent. Early life Hartman was born Grace Barrett in Chicago, the daughter of actress Agnes A. Hartman. She was the sister of actress Ruth Hartman, and the aunt of actor Carlyle Blackwell, Jr. Career Hartman debuted on stage at the Bush Temple Theatre in Chicago portraying Little Eva in ''Uncle Tom's Cabin''. Her New York debut was in the same play, presented at the Majestic Theatre. She starred in Broadway plays as a child, starting her career at age nine. She started working in the theater under the name Greta Arbin before making her film debut. Arthur Donaldson (5 April 186928 September 1955), was a Swedish-American actor and opera singer. He appeared in 71 films between 1910 and 1934. Biography Donaldson was born in Norsholm, Sweden. His father was a sea captain, and his mother was an actress. He was educated at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in Stockholm. He moved to the United States at the age of fourteen and quickly became a prolific actor on stage. He made his film debut in 1910. Donaldson debuted on stage when he was 7 years old, performing in ''Uncle Brown's Leather Couch'' at the Stora Theatre in Norr Koping, Swededn. He first performed on stage in the United States in 1890 as part of a Swedish company. Donaldson moved from theatrical productions to singing, first with the Duff Opera Company and then performing in a concert tour with Emma Cecilia Thursby. ''The Living Corpse'' (russian: Живой труп, italic=yes, link=no) is a Russian play by Leo Tolstoy. Although written around 1900, it was only published shortly after his death—Tolstoy had never considered the work finished. An immediate success, it is still performed. Plot The central character of the play, Fedor Protasov, is tormented by the belief that his wife Liza has never really chosen between him and the more conventional Victor Karenin, a rival for her hand. He wants to kill himself, but doesn't have the nerve. Running away from his life, he first falls in with Gypsies, and into a sexual relationship with a Gypsy singer, Masha. However, facing Masha's parents' disapproval, he runs away from this life as well. Again he wants to kill himself, but lacks the nerve; again, his descent continues.
