Atlético Español was a football team which played between 1971 and 1982 in the Primera División de México. They played out of México City. History Atlético Español Fútbol Club On September 19, 1971, when a group of Spanish entrepreneurs / business people decided to buy the franchise of what was then known as Necaxa and change their name to Atlético Español. The reason for the name change was due to their nationality and ideology in the world of business. The branded club were modeled on the defunct team Real Club España, with a similar name and kit to the predecessor. The team would immediately obtain the nickname ''Toros'' because in their badge was a bull next a football and the initials AE. ''Español'' characterized itself to be a team which was a fighter, but their start was not the ideal one since in the 1971–72 season they were a point away from descending to the 2nd division. Estadio Azteca () is a multi-purpose stadium located in Mexico City. It is the official home of football clubs Club América and Cruz Azul as well as the Mexico national football team. Deportivo Saprissa
Deportivo Saprissa is a Costa Rican sports club, mostly known for its football team. The club is based in San Juan de Tibás, San José, and play their home games at the Estadio Ricardo Saprissa Aymá. The team's signature colours are purple (burgundy) and white. It is the main team representing the capital, but with the distinction of being massively followed throughout the whole country and overseas. The club was founded in 1935 and has competed in the Costa Rican first division since 1949. The name of the team comes from one of the club's main founders, Ricardo Saprissa. 1976 Copa Interamericana
The 1976 Copa Interamericana was the 5th. edition of the Copa Interamericana. The final was contested by Argentine Club Atlético Independiente (champion of 1975 Copa Libertadores) and Mexican team Atlético Español (winner of 1975 CONCACAF Champions' Cup). The final was played under a two-leg format in August 1976. Both matches were held in Estadio Olímpico, Caracas, Venezuela. In the first leg, both teams tied 2–2, while the second leg was also a tie, 0–0. As both teams equaled in points and goal difference, a penalty shoot-out was carried out to decide a champion. 1975 CONCACAF Champions' Cup
The 1975 CONCACAF Champions' Cup was the 11th edition of the annual international club football competition held in the CONCACAF region (North America, Central America and the Caribbean), the CONCACAF Champions' Cup. It determined that year's club champion of association football in the CONCACAF region and was played from 5 July 1975 till 9 May 1976. The teams were split in 3 zones (North American, Central American and the Caribbean), each one qualifying the winner to the final tournament, where the winners of the North and Central zones played a semi-final to decide who was going to play against the Caribbean champion in the final. The CONCACAF Champions League, known officially as the Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League for sponsorship reasons, is an annual continental club football competition organized by CONCACAF. The tournament is contested by clubs from North America, Central America, and the Caribbean.
