Atlantic Cup (Europe)
The Atlantic Cup was a friendly game contested between the champions of the Úrvalsdeild, Icelandic Premier League and the champions of the Faroe Islands Premier League. History In 1999 the Icelandic Champions from 1998, IBV Vestmannaeyar, visited the Faroe Islands to play a match against the Faroese champions from 1998, HB Tórshavn. The match ended in a 2-2 draw, but because it was a cup game, it was decided on penalties (no extra time was played). The Icelandic team scored on all of their attempts, while the Faroese Champions missed their first penalty, and therefore IBV Vestmannaeyar won the shootout 5-3. But it was HB who probably should have won the match, as they were leading both 1-0 and 2-1, but allowed IBV to equalize twice, the second equalizer was just 2 minutes from time. Arnar Gunnlaugsson
Arnar Bergmann Gunnlaugsson (born 6 March 1973) is an Icelandic football coach managing Víkingur in the Úrvalsdeild. He is a retired international player. During his career he enjoyed spells at Leicester City, Stoke City, Bolton Wanderers, IA Akranes, 1. FC Nürnberg, Feyenoord and Dundee United. Club career While at Leicester City he played a key role in their victorious 1999–2000 Football League Cup campaign. He made two appearances during the run, and both times came on as a substitute and scored in a penalty shootout; once against Leeds United and once against Fulham. Ásgeir Ásgeirsson
Ásgeir Ásgeirsson (; 13 May 1894 – 15 September 1972) was the second president of Iceland, from 1952 to 1968. He was a Freemason and served as Grand Master of the Icelandic Order of Freemasons. Early life and education Educated as a theologian, Ásgeir graduated with honours from the University of Iceland in Reykjavík in 1915, but was considered too young to be ordained as a minister. He married Dóra Þórhallsdóttir in 1917. Dóra was the daughter of Þórhallur Bjarnarson (1855–1916), 6th Bishop of Iceland (1908–1916). Her brother was Tryggvi Þórhallsson, who was the 5th Prime Minister of Iceland (1927–1932). Tryggvi Guðmundsson (born 30 July 1974) is an Icelandic former professional association football, footballer. He is Iceland's all-time top scorer in the Úrvalsdeild. He is the highest scoring male Icelandic footballer of all time in association football with 296 goals credited to his name. Fimleikafélag Hafnarfjarðar ( en, Hafnarfjörður Gymnastics Club), commonly referred to as FH, is an Icelandic multi-sports club based in Hafnarfjörður. The club competes in football, handball, athletics, and fencing. It was founded in 1929 as a gymnastics club but soon started a handball department which became its flagship for several decades. Vagnur Mohr Mortensen (born 10 February 1983) is a Faroese retired footballer who played for HB Tórshavn. He played at HB for his whole career and was capped by the Faroe Islands 4 times. He played as a defender. Club career Mortensen made his senior debut in 1999 and won 4 league titles with HB until his retirement in 2012. In 2006, he scored an 89th-minute goal on the final day of the season which helped win HB the league title with minutes to spare. In August 2012, during a win over rivals B36 Tórshavn, he suffered a broken fibula and announced his retirement from football shortly afterwards.
