Decathlon
The decathlon is a combined event in Athletics (sport), athletics consisting of ten track and field events. The word "decathlon" was formed, in analogy to the word "pentathlon", from Greek language, Greek δέκα (''déka'', meaning "ten") and ἄθλος (''áthlos'', or ἄθλον, ''áthlon'', meaning "contest" or “prize”). Events are held over two consecutive days and the winners are determined by the combined performance in all. Performance is judged on a points system in each event, not by the position achieved. The decathlon is contested mainly by male athletes, while female athletes typically compete in the heptathlon. Traditionally, the title of "World's Greatest Athlete" has been given to the person who wins the decathlon. Athletics At The 2006 Commonwealth Games
At the 2006 Commonwealth Games, the athletics events were held in Melbourne, Australia from 19 March to 25 March 2006. A total of 47 events were contested, of which 24 by male and 23 by female athletes. Furthermore, three men's and three women's disability events were held within the programme. Dean Macey
Dean Macey (born 12 December 1977) is an English athlete from Canvey Island. He is best known for competing in the decathlon, which he did from 1995 to 2008, winning the Commonwealth Games decathlon, two World Championship medals, as well as twice finishing fourth in the Olympic Games. Retiring from decathlon due to injury, he competed in the bobsleigh between 2008 and 2010. Maurice Smith (decathlete)
Maurice Smith (born 28 September 1980 in St. Catherine, Jamaica) is a decathlete from Jamaica. He competed for Auburn University. He represented his native country at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece, finishing in 14th place. He broke the Pan American Games decathlon record in 2007, winning his first international gold medal. He won the silver medal in the decathlon at the 2007 World Championships. Jason Dudley
Jason Dudley (born 10 November 1984) is an Australian former Decathlon, decathlete. Dudley was based in Queensland and coached by Eric Brown. In 2001, Dudley was a bronze medalist in the octathlon at the 2001 World Youth Championships in Athletics, 2001 World Youth Championships in Hungary. At the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Dudley scored 8001 points in the decathlon to finish in the bronze medal position. He had held the lead going into the final phase after setting a personal best to win the javelin event, but fell two places by only finishing fifth in the 1,500 metres race. Richard Beecroft Allan, Baron Allan of Hallam (born 11 February 1966) is a British politician and life peer. He was the Liberal Democrat Member of Parliament for Sheffield Hallam from the general election of Thursday 1 May 1997 until the dissolution of Parliament on 11 April 2005. Guillaume Thierry (born 15 September 1986) is a track and field athlete from the Republic of Mauritius.
