Athletics At The 2004 Summer Olympics – Men's Hammer Throw
The men's hammer throw competition at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens was held at the Olympic Stadium on 20–22 August. There were 35 competitors from 24 nations. The event was marred by doping-related disqualifications, with the original first- and third-place athletes being removed. After those disqualifications, the event was won by Koji Murofushi of Japan, the nation's first medal in the event. No silver medal was awarded. Eşref Apak of Turkey received bronze, Turkey's first medal in the event as well. Disqualifications Adrián Annus of Hungary originally won the competition, but he was disqualified after being found guilty of tampering with his sample at the doping control. The original runner-up, Koji Murofushi, was accordingly declared the 2004 Olympic champion. Originally, Ivan Tsikhan won the bronze medal. The Olympic Stadium of Athens "Spyros Louis" ( el, Ολυμπιακό Στάδιο Αθηνών "Σπύρος Λούης", ''Olympiakó Stádio Athinon "Spyros Louis"'') is a sports stadium in Athens, Greece. It is a part of the Athens Olympic Sports Complex and is named after the first modern Olympic marathon gold medalist in 1896, Spyros Louis. Vadim Anatolyevich Devyatovskiy ( be, Вадзі́м Анато́левіч Дзевято́ўскі, , Łacinka: ''Vadzim Anatolevič Dzieviatoŭski'', russian: Вади́м Анато́льевич Девято́вский; born 20 March 1977 in Navapołacak, Belarusian SSR, USSR) is a Belarusian hammer thrower. He finished fourth at the 2004 Summer Olympics, and in 2005 he won the World Championships after his countryman Ivan Tsikhan was stripped of his gold medal because of doping violations. In July the same year he threw 84.90 metres, which currently is his personal best. Sergey Litvinov (athlete, Born 1958)
Sergey Nikolaevich Litvinov (russian: Серге́й Никола́евич Литви́нов; 23 January 1958 – 19 February 2018) was a Russian hammer thrower and athletics coach. He competed at the 1980 Summer Olympics and the 1988 Summer Olympics, missing the 1984 Summer Olympics due to the Soviet boycott, and won a silver and a gold medal, respectively. He also won two world titles, in 1983 and 1987. After retiring from competitions he coached elite hammer throwers including Ivan Tsikhan and his son Sergey. Career Throughout his career Litvinov battled with Yuriy Sedykh. Litvinov set three world records, the last being 84.14 metres in June 1983. However, Sedykh improved the world record to 86.34 m in 1984 and to 86.74 m at the 1986 European championships. In 1986 Litvinov threw 86.04 metres which remained his personal best. Ilya Valeryevich Konovalov (russian: Илья Валерьевич Коновалов; born 4 March 1971 in Yefrosimovka, Kursk) is a retired male hammer thrower from Russia, whose personal best throw is 82.28 metres, achieved in August 2003 in Tula. In 2007 Konovalov was found guilty of acetazolamide doping. The sample was delivered on 17 December 2006 in an in-competition test in Kursk, Russia. He won the silver medal at the 2000 Summer Olympics and ten years later at the 2010 European Athletics Championships. His personal best throw is 80.50 metres, achieved in July 2001 in Formia.
