4 × 400 Metres Relay
The 4 × 400 metres relay or long relay is an athletics track event in which teams consist of four runners who each complete 400 metres or one lap. It is traditionally the final event of a track meet. At top class events, the first leg and the first bend of the second leg are run in lanes. Start lines are thus staggered over a greater distance than in an individual 400 metres race; the runners then typically move to the inside of the track. The slightly longer 4 × 440 yards relay was a formerly run British and American event, until metrication was completed in the 1970s. Relay race runners typically carry a relay baton which they must transfer between teammates. Runners have a 20 m box (usually marked with blue lines) in which to transfer the baton. Jennifer Elaine "Jenny" Stoute (born 16 April 1965) is female English former sprinter. She represented Great Britain at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul and the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, where she won a bronze medal in the 4x400 metres relay. She also appeared as Rebel in the ITV show ''Gladiators'' from 1996 to 1999. Biography Stoute was born in Bradford, West Yorkshire, England to Barbadian parents. Jillian Richardson
Jillian Cheryl Richardson-Briscoe (born March 10, 1965 in Guayaguayare, Trinidad and Tobago) is a Canadians, Canadian athlete who competed mainly in the 400 metres. She is a three-time Olympian. In 1988, she equalled Marita Payne's Canadian 400 metres record of 49.91 secs. The record (as of 2022) still stands. She was inducted into the Athletics Canada Hall of Fame in 2017. Richardson won a gold medal at the 1982 Commonwealth Games as a member of the 4 x 400 meter relay team. She repeated that feat at the 1986 Commonwealth Games, as well as winning a silver in the 400 meters. She was a member of the 4 x 400 metre relay that took a silver medal in the 1983 Pan American Games. Camille Anise Noel (born 14 April 1974) is a Canadian sprinter who specialized in the 400 metres. As a junior she competed without finishing at the 1990 World Junior Championships and finished fourth at the 1992 World Junior Championships. Charmaine Crooks
Charmaine Crooks (born August 8, 1962), is a Canadian athlete, five-time Olympian and Olympic Silver Medallist (LA '84, 4X400m Relay). Crooks was born in Mandeville, Jamaica, but represented Canada for close to 20 years in athletics. The first Canadian woman to run 800 metres in under two minutes, she won gold medals at the Pan American, Commonwealth, World Cup, and the World Student Games. In 1996, she had the honour of being Canada's Flag Bearer at the Opening Ceremonies of the Atlanta Centennial Olympic Games. She is the fifth child with five sisters and three brothers. Crooks won the 400 metre title at the first Pan Am Junior Championships in 1980, as well as a silver in the 4 x 400 metre relay.
