Athletics At The 2020 Summer Paralympics
Athletics at the 2020 Summer Paralympics were held in the National Stadium in Tokyo. There was 167 medal events: 93 for men, 73 for women and one mixed event. It was the largest contest of the Games programme regarding athlete numbers and medal events to be scheduled. The 2020 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games were postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They kept the 2020 name and were instead held from 24 August to 5 September 2021. Classification and events Participating athletes are given a classification depending on their disabilities (T denotes track events, F denotes field events). Madison de Rozario, (born 24 November 1993) is an Australian Paralympic athlete and wheelchair racer who specialises in middle and long-distance events. She competed at the 2008 Beijing, 2012 London, 2016 Rio and 2020 Tokyo Summer Paralympics, winning two gold medals, three silver and a bronze. She has also won ten medals (three gold, three silver and four bronze) at the World Para Athletics Championships and four gold at the Commonwealth Games. Elena Pautova (born 22 January 1986) is a Paralympian Track and field, athlete from Russia competing mainly in category T12 (classification), T12 middle-distance events. She is a two times Paralympic gold medalist and three times World Championship gold medalist in the 1500m race. Pautova also broke the world record in the T13 5000m event in 2003. Career history Pautova, who is visually impaired, first took to athletics while she attended a specialised boarding school in Armavir, Russia. She began competing competitively whilst still a teenager, and she competed in both middle and long-distance events. Daniela Eugenia Velasco Maldonado (born August 24, 1995) is a Mexican Paralympic athlete who was part of the Mexican delegation at the 2016 Summer Paralympics. She was a bronze medalist in the 400 meters dash of the T12 category at the 2012 Summer Paralympics. She was close to being a medalist in the 1500 meters of Rio 2016 but was then disqualified.
