2014 Commonwealth Games
The 2014 Commonwealth Games ( gd, Geamannan a' Cho-fhlaitheis 2014), officially known as the XX Commonwealth Games and commonly known as Glasgow 2014, ( sco, Glesca 2014 or Glesga 2014; gd, Glaschu 2014), was an international multi-sport event celebrated in the tradition of the Commonwealth Games as governed by the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF). It took place in Glasgow, Scotland, from 23 July to 3 August 2014. Glasgow was selected as the host city on 9 November 2007 during CGF General Assembly in Colombo, Sri Lanka, defeating Abuja, Nigeria. It was the largest multi-sport event ever held in Scotland with around 4,950 athletes from 71 different nations and territories competing in 18 different sports, outranking the 1970 and 1986 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh. Makeba Alcide (born 24 February 1990 in Castries, Saint Lucia) is a Saint Lucian track and field athlete. She holds the Saint Lucia records and OECS records for women's 60m Hurdles, Pentathlon and Heptathlon, and the Saint Lucia record for 100m Hurdles. Biography Makeba was born in Castries, Saint Lucia, to Andre Alcide and Agath Alphonse. An alumnus of St Joseph's Convent in Castries, she was one of the island's most outstanding junior female athletes. Competing in the under-20 Pentathlon at the CARIFTA Games between 2007 and 2009, she took silver in that event at the 2009 edition of the meet, on home soil in Vieux Fort, Saint Lucia. Katy Louise Sealy (born 15 October 1990) is a Belizean international athlete. She was brought up in Suffolk in England but qualifies for Belize because her father was born there. She lived in Bawdsey. Sealy was a heptathlete at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and carried the flag for Belize. Jessica Zelinka (born 3 September 1981 in London, Ontario) is a Canadian pentathlete, heptathlete, and 100 m hurdler. Her personal best score is 6599 points for the heptathlon.
