Athletics At The 2012 Summer Paralympics
Athletics events at the 2012 Summer Paralympics were held in the Olympic Stadium and in The Mall in London, United Kingdom, from 31 August to 9 September 2012. Classification Athletes were given a classification depending on the type and extent of their disability. The classification system allowed athletes to compete against others with a similar level of function. The athletics classifications are: *11–13: Blind (11) and visually impaired (12, 13) athletes *20: Athletes with an intellectual disability *31–38: Athletes with cerebral palsy *40: Les Autres (others) (including people with dwarfism) *42–46: Amputees *51–58: Athletes with a spinal cord disability The class numbers were given prefixes of "T", "F" and "P" for track, field and pentathlon events, respectively. Christine Akullo
Christine Akullo (born 23 June 1990) is a Ugandan Paralympic athlete competing in the T13 Category. Akullo won Gold for Uganda in the T13 100m at the 2011 All Africa Games in Maputo, Mozambique as well as the 2015 All Africa Games. She was also Uganda's flag bearer at the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London. Background and education Akullo was in Aboke, Soroti District, Uganda to Joseph Ayom and Jennet Rose Agiro. After contracting malaria in 1998, she became partially blind. Between 1996 and 2004, she received her early education at Namatala Primary School in Mbale District. She later joined St Francis Madera School for the Blind in Soroti in 2006 and completed her A-Level in 2011. Locally she is sponsored by Child Fund International and it was reported that she would be joining Makerere University in September 2012 to pursue a bachelor's degree in Sports Science. Wang Yanping (born 22 November 1993) is a Paralympic athlete from China who competes in throwing events for F37 classification athletes. Athletic career Wang became involved in sport in 2005. Her first major international games was the 2011 IPC Athletics World Championships in Christchurch. She entered the 100m, 200m and 400m sprints, her best result being fourth place in the 400 m race. Anrune Weyers (née Liebenberg, born 3 November 1992), is a South African para-athlete. She took up athletics in 2010. Weyers was born with a congenital defect in her left arm and competes in the T47 disability class. At the 2011 IPC Athletics World Championships she came second in the 400 m and sixth in the 200 m. In 2012, she won two medals at the London Paralympics, namely silver in the 400 m and bronze in the 200 m. Isabelle Foerder (born 7 July 1979) is a paralympic athlete from Germany, competing mainly in category T37 sprint events. Biography Isabelle Foerder competed in four consecutive paralympics games, starting in 1996. These were the only games where she competed in long; every other time, including 1996, she competed in the 100m and 200m. Jodi Elkington
Jodi Elkington-Jones (born 17 May 1993) is Australian athlete who has cerebral palsy. She represented Australia at the 2012 Summer Paralympics and has also competed in two Commonwealth Games, winning gold in the 2014 Games in the F37/38 long jump. She represented Australia at the 2016 Rio Paralympics in athletics. Personal Elkington was born on 17 May 1993 in Wodonga, Victoria.
