Athletics At The 2012 Summer Olympics – Women's Long Jump
The women's long jump competition at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, United Kingdom, was held at the Olympic Stadium on 7–8 August. Only three barely made the auto qualifying mark. Brittney Reese struggled with fouls and finally made a mark on her final attempt. Karin Melis Mey originally qualified for the final, but was pulled after a positive drug test. In the final Ineta Radēviča took the first round lead with a 6.88, while Yelena Sokolova settled into second place. Brittney Reese, who has won every major championship since 2009, fouled her first attempt. In the second round, Reese hit to board cleanly, jumping 7.12. Three jumps later, Sokolova came close with a 7.07. Reese continued to struggle with three more foul jumps, her only other legal jump would have placed her eighth. Arantxa King (born 27 November 1989) is a Bermudian athlete competing in the long jump. Biography King was born in Paget Parish, Bermuda on 27 November 1989. Her mother, Branwen Smith-King, is a former Bermuda national track and field team member while her father Adrian King is a former international cricket player. Her sister Akilah was also an accomplished athlete at Brown University. King competed at the 2005 IAAF World Youth Championships in Marrakech, Morocco. Ivana Vuleta (; sr-cyr, Ивана Вулета, , ; born 10 May 1990) is a Serbian long jumper, two-time World indoor champion, three times European indoor champion and reigning European champion. In 2013, Vuleta became the first Serbian track and field athlete to win a medal at the IAAF Outdoor World Championships. In 2018, she became the first Serbian track and field athlete to win a world senior gold medal at the IAAF Indoor World Championships. Karin Melis Mey, née Karin Mey, (born 31 May 1983) is a South African-born Turkish female long jumper. She became a naturalised Turkish citizen in June 2008, and took the name Melis in addition to her birth name Karin Mey. The tall athlete at is a member of Fenerbahçe Athletics team, where she is coached by Charley Strohmenger. Representing South Africa, one of her first international appearances was a sixth-place finish at the 2005 Summer Universiade. Shara Proctor (born 16 September 1988) is a British former long jumper born in Anguilla. She is the national record holder of both Anguilla and Great Britain.
