Alan Fonteles Cardoso Oliveira (born August 21, 1992) is a Paralympian athlete from Brazil competing mainly in category T44 sprint events. Oliveira is a double-below-the-knee amputee, classifying him in the Paralympic T43 class; athletes in this class run in T44 event. Biography Oliveira was born in Marabá, in the state of Pará. He had both legs amputated at the age of 21 days, after an intestinal infection led to sepsis. By the age of eight, he was competing in athletics. Oliveira began running with wooden prostheses, and started competing in races in Brazil at age 13. He began running on carbon-fibre blades at the age of 15, shortly before competing in his first Paralympics in Beijing. Blake Leeper
Blake Leeper (born August 31, 1989) is a United States Paralympic athlete, eight-time Paralympic Track and Field international medalist, world record holder and three-time American record holder. Leeper started his medal run in 2011 at the Parapan American Games where he took silver in the 100-meter dash. He went on to compete in the 2012 Paralympic Games in London, where he picked up two more medals, a bronze in the 200-meter dash and silver in the 400-meter dash, losing to South African Oscar Pistorius, whose world record of 45.39 seconds is the one Leeper was chasing. In 2013, Leeper also took four medals at the Paralympic World Championships in Lyon, France, where he ran as part of the world record-setting 4x100-meter relay gold medal team. Rudy Garcia-Tolson
Rudy Garcia-Tolson (born September 14, 1988) is a Paralympic swimmer, runner and triathlete from the USA. He was born with popliteal pterygium syndrome, resulting in a club foot, webbed fingers on both hands, a cleft lip and palate and the inability to straighten his legs. As a 5 year old wheelchair user, after 15 operations, he decided he would rather be a double amputee and walk with prosthetics. He had both legs removed above the knee. Swimming Garcia-Tolson started swimming at age 6. Within a year, the seven-year old was competing against children without disabilities and breaking records. When he was eight years old, he stated that he would swim in the 2004 Paralympic Games. Shaquille Vance (born March 22, 1991) is an American T42 Paralympic sprint runner and shot putter. Vance lost his leg in an American football accident in 2009. Two weeks after surgery to repair the damaged leg, no blood was circulating to his foot so his leg was removed. Before losing his leg, he was a linebacker and wide receiver for the Houston Hilltoppers. Omar Monterola (born 1 August 1987) is a Paralympian athlete from Venezuela competing in category T37 sprinting events. Monterola qualified for the 2012 Summer Paralympics in the 100m, 200m and 400m sprints. He qualified for the finals of all three, winning the bronze medal in the 200m event. Career history Monterola, who has cerebral palsy, was inspired to take up parasport by his cousin Keisa, who was an international pole vaulter.
