The final of the men's triple jump event at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia was held on July 27, 1996. There were 43 participating athletes from 32 nations, with two qualifying groups. The maximum number of athletes per nation had been set at 3 since the 1930 Olympic Congress. The top twelve and ties, and all those reaching 17.00 metres advanced to the final. The qualification round was held on July 26, 1996. The event was won by Kenny Harrison of the United States, the nation's second consecutive and sixth overall victory in the men's triple jump. Centennial Olympic Stadium was the 85,000-seat main stadium of the 1996 Summer Olympics and Paralympics in Atlanta, Georgia, United States. Construction of the stadium began in 1993, and it was complete and ready for the opening ceremony in July 1996, where it hosted track and field events and the closing ceremony. Māris Bružiks (born 25 August 1962 in Pļaviņas, Latvia) is a retired triple jumper who represented the USSR, and later, following its dissolution, Latvia. Armen Martirosyan (athlete)
Armen Martirosyan ( hy, Արմեն Մարտիրոսյան, born 6 August 1969 in Leninakan, Shirak, Armenian SSR) is a retired Armenian triple jumper. He came in fifth place at the 1996 Summer Olympics and also competed at the 2000 Summer Olympics and 2004 Summer Olympics in the men's triple jump. Jérôme Romain
Jérôme Romain (born June 12, 1971 in Saint-Martin, France) is a former world-class track and field athlete who competed mainly in the triple jump. Born on Saint-Martin, a French overseas territory in the Caribbean, Romain represented Dominica before he became a French citizen in 1999. Romain competed collegiately for Blinn College and the University of Arkansas. He graduated from Arkansas in 1996 with a bachelor's degree in kinesiology/athletic training. He received his master's degree in kinesiology/exercise science from Arkansas in 2000. Romain was the assistant coach for jumps at the University of Wisconsin–Madison for four years following his graduation. Robert Howard (November 26, 1975 in Brooklyn, New York – August 14, 2004 in Little Rock, Arkansas) was an American world-class triple and long jumper and a nine-time NCAA collegiate champion.
