The Women's Javelin Throw event at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea had an entry list of 29 competitors, with two qualifying groups (29 throwers) before the final (12) took place on Monday September 26, 1988. The top 12 and all those reaching 63.00 metres advanced to the final. All results were made with a rough surfaced javelin (old design). Olympic Stadium (Seoul)
The Seoul Olympic Stadium (), also known as Jamsil Olympic Stadium (formerly romanised as ''Chamshil''), is a multi-purpose stadium in Seoul, South Korea. It is the main stadium built for the 1988 Summer Olympics and the 1986 Asian Games, 10th Asian Games in 1986. It is the centrepiece of the Seoul Sports Complex in the Songpa District, in the southeast of the city south of the Han River (Korea), Han River. It is the largest stadium in South Korea. Design and construction This multi-purpose stadium was designed by Kim Swoo-geun. The lines of the stadium's profile imitate the elegant curves of a Korean Joseon Dynasty porcelain vase. Spectator seats are distributed on two tiers, half covered. Initially built with a capacity of approximately 100,000, today it seats 69,950. Anna Verouli ( el, Άννα Βερούλη, born November 13, 1956) is a retired Greek javelin thrower. She was born in Kavala. She won the gold medal at the 1982 European Athletics Championships, and a bronze medal at the 1983 World Championships in Athletics. Elsa Katrine Hattestad (née Solberg; born 18 April 1966) is a retired Norwegian track and field athlete who competed in the javelin throw. During her career, she was a European, World, and Olympic Champion, and broke the world record twice. Her personal best, set in 2000, of 69.48 m is the Norwegian record. It also ranks her fifth on the overall list. Career Hattestad made her international debut at the 1981 European Junior Championships, finishing fifth. The following year, at the age of just 16, she competed in the European Championships for seniors. By the beginning of the 1990s, Hattestad was one of the best female javelin throwers in the world. In 1993, she won her first major international title, the World Championships in Stuttgart as well as the IAAF Golden Four. To that, she added the 1994 European title. Laverne Eve (born 16 June 1965, in Nassau) is a female track and field athlete from the Bahamas, who competes in the javelin throw. Her personal best throw (new javelin) is 63.73 metres, achieved in April 2000 in Nashville. Beate Edeltraud Peters (born 12 October 1959) is a retired West German javelin thrower. Biography She finished seventh at the 1983 World Championships and the 1984 Summer Olympics. She then won bronze medals at the 1986 European Championships and the 1987 World Championships. She also participated at the 1988 Olympics, but did not reach the final.
