Athletics At The 1912 Summer Olympics – Men's Two Handed Discus Throw
The men's two handed discus throw was a track and field athletics event held as part of the Athletics at the 1912 Summer Olympics These are the results of athletics competition at the 1912 Summer Olympics. 30 events were contested, all for men only. The athletics programme grew by 4 events since the 1908 Summer Olympics. The 5000 and 10000 metre races were introduced, as ... programme. It was the only appearance of the event at the Olympics, along with the other two handed throws. The format of the event was such that each thrower threw the discus three times with his right hand and three times with his left hand. The best distance with each hand was summed to give a total. The three finalists received three more throws with each hand. The competition was held on Saturday, July 13, 1912. Twenty discus throwers from six nations competed. Gunnar Nilsson (athlete)
Gunnar Axel Arvid Nilsson (20 November 1948 – 20 October 1978) was a Swedish racing driver. Before entering Formula One, he won the 1975 British Formula 3 Championship. Nilsson entered 32 Formula One Grand Prix races, qualifying for all of them. He won the 1977 Belgian Grand Prix at Zolder while driving for Team Lotus. After losing his Lotus seat, he signed for Arrows for 1978, but was later diagnosed with testicular cancer which meant he could not drive the car. However, he did compete in three International Race of Champions (IROC) races in 1977. He had two sixth-place finishes and a fifth-place finish. As soon as the cancer was determined to be terminal, he created the Gunnar Nilsson Cancer Foundation. He died in October 1978. Károly Kobulszky (; sk, Karol Kobulszky; 28 September 1887 – 31 December 1970) was a Hungarian track and field athlete, footballer and postal clerk. Career Born in Eperjes (Prešov), Kobulszky began his career in 1904 by local club Eperjesi Torna és Vívó Egylet, where he remained until 1910. Generally competing in throwing events (discus throw, shot put), he was also member of the Eperjesi TVE football team, with them he won the first edition of the Northern District Championship of the Hungarian league (1907–08). In 1910 Kobulszky switched to Budapesti Postás SE, the club of the Hungarian Post, in their color he won his first Hungarian Athletics Championships title in the discus throw event. Richard Leslie Byrd (May 16, 1892 – June 20, 1958) was an American athlete and baseball player who won the silver medal in the discus throw at the 1912 Summer Olympics. Josef Schäffer (born July 2, 1891 in Moravia) was an Austrian track and field athlete who competed in the 1912 Summer Olympics. He competed in the decathlon, shot put, discus throw and two-handed discus throw. He finished tenth in the decathlon, throwing the second-furthest in the discus on his way to his score of 6568.585. Arlie Max Mucks (December 10, 1891 – July 10, 1967) was an American Track and field, track and field athlete who competed in the 1912 Summer Olympics. Eric Otto Valdemar Lemming (22 February 1880 – 5 June 1930) was a Swedish track and field athlete who competed at the 1900, 1906, 1908 and 1912 Olympics in a wide variety of events, which mostly involved throwing and jumping. He had his best results in the javelin throw, which he won at the 1906–1912 Games, and in which he set multiple world records between 1899 and 1912. His last record, measured at 62.32 m, was ratified by the International Association of Athletics Federations as the first official world record. Javelin throw was not part of the 1900 Olympics, where Lemming finished fourth in the hammer throw, high jump and pole vault.
