Athens Suburban Railway Line 2
The Athens Suburban Railway, ( el, Προαστιακός Αθήνας, Proastiakós Athínas) is a commuter rail service that connects the city of Athens with its metropolitan area and other regions beyond Attica, including Corinthia, Boeotia, Euboea and Achaea. The first ''Proastiakos'' line, linking central Athens with Athens International Airport, was inaugurated two weeks before the 2004 Olympic Games. Over the years, the network has been successively expanded to Corinth (2005), Piraeus (2007), Kiato (2007), Chalcis (2009) and Aigio (2020). History "Proastiakos SA" was founded in 2003 as a subsidiary of OSE to serve the operation of the suburban network in the urban complex of Athens during the 2004 Olympic Games. OSE Class 460
The OSE Class 460 is the only line of electric trainsets (EMU) in Greece and, together with the 621 class, it is the second most recent series of railcars operated by TRAINOSE after the 3107 class. They are OSE rolling stock and belong to the Desiro Classic generation, while they were manufactured by Siemens in 2006. They come in line with the 660 class but their main difference is that the 460 is electric-powered with five coaches while the 660 is diesel-powered by two coaches but they have the same manufacturers and gauge. Class 460 trainsets can be coupled to another trainset on a double coupling to form an EMU-10, controlled by the driver of the leading cab. In total, there are 20 such trainsets, numbered 460 101/460 201 – 460 120/460 220. Corinthia
Corinthia ( el, Κορινθία ''Korinthía'') is one of the regional units of Greece. It is part of the region of Peloponnese. It is situated around the city of Corinth, in the north-eastern part of the Peloponnese peninsula. Geography Corinthia borders on Achaea to the west and southwest, the Gulf of Corinth and Attica to the north, the Saronic Gulf to the east, Argolis to the south and Arcadia to the southwest. Aigio Railway Station
Aigio railway station ( el, Σιδηροδρομικός Σταθμός Αιγίου, Sidirodromikós Stathmós Aigíou) is a train station in Aigio in the northern Peloponnese, Greece. Since June 2020, it is served by trains to and from central Athens and Athens Airport via Kiato. The station is located on the outskirts of Aigio, 2 km from the town's centre. History Construction was completed several years after the suspension of regional services on the metre-gauge railways of the Peloponnese in 2011. After a series of test runs commencing in April 2019, railway traffic to and from Aigio had been expected to resume in August 2019. However, a series of delays meant that the opening of the section between Aigio and Kiato was postponed until June 2020. Services finally commenced on 22 June 2020. Chalcis Railway Station
Chalcis railway station ( el, Σιδηροδρομικός σταθμός Χαλκίδος, Sidirodromikos stathmos Chalkídos) is a railway station in the city of Chalcis, in Euboea, Greece. Opened on 8 March 1904, it is now the northern terminus station of the Athens - Chalcis service of Proastiakos. The station sits close to the waterfront, with a small promenade running parallel to the platforms. It is owned by Hellenic Railways Organisation, OSE, but services are provided by Hellenic Train through the Athens Suburban Railway to Oinoi and Athens. Kiato Railway Station
Kiato railway station ( el, Σιδηροδρομικός Σταθμός Κιάτου, Sidirodromikós Stathmós Kiátou) is a station in Kiato in the northern Peloponnese, Greece. The station is located 1 km west of the town, near the A8 motorway between Athens and Patras. It was opened on 9 July 2007. The station is served by Line 2 and Line 5 of the Athens Suburban Railway between Piraeus and Aigio. It should not be confused with the now-closed station on the old Piraeus–Patras railway, which is located northeast of the current station, closer to the coast of the Corinthian Gulf. Piraeus Station
Piraeus ( el, Πειραιάς, ) is the name of two railway stations in Piraeus, Greece, approximately 9 km south-west of the centre of Athens. The southern building is the present terminus of Athens Metro Line 1, formerly the Athens-Piraeus Railways Co that opened in 1869. The northern building is the railway terminus for standard gauge railway services of the Athens Suburban Railway to the Acharnes Railway Center and . Both buildings are located next to the seaport. Corinth railway station ( el, Σιδηροδρομικός Σταθμός Κορίνθου, Sidirodromikós Stathmós Korínthou) is a station in Corinth in the northern Peloponnese, Greece. It was opened on 27 September 2005, replacing an older station old station, near the harbour. Proastiakos
The Proastiakos ( el, Προαστιακός; "suburban") is Greece's Commuter rail service, run by Hellenic Train, on rail infrastructure owned by the Hellenic Railways Organisation (OSE) (lines) and GAIAOSE (buildings and Trains). These services connect a participating city's central railway station to important locations such as a city's port or airport, as well as its suburbs and occasionally nearby towns and cities. As of September 2020, there are three Proastiakos networks, serving the country's three largest cities: Athens, Thessaloniki, and Patras, providing them with commuter rail links towards their suburbs and also with regional services to other cities and towns. In 2016, the three systems carried 10.1 million passengers. As of 8 January 2017, the lines between the central stations of Athens and Halkida have been electrified allowing EMU train service.
