The Olympian Gods are characters based upon Classical mythology who appear primarily in ''Wonder Woman'', '' Captain Marvel'' and ''Aquaman'' comics. History Pre-Crisis era New era When a Godwave spilled forth from the creation of the Fourth World, the Earth was seeded with great power. It first manifested in the form of old gods, then of metahumans. Some of the oldest of these gods were hidden from the universe until the time of ancient Greece by the sorceress, Hecate. Hecate reasoned that the Olympian Gods (as they would eventually be called) were greatly weakened after usurping power from their father Cronus and the Titans of Myth. She feared that other powerful gods in the universe (notably Darkseid of Apokolips) would seize Earth for himself. Athena is a fictional deity appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. She is based on the Athena, Greek Goddess of the same name. Publication history Athena first appeared in ''Thor (comic book), The Mighty Thor'' #164 (May 1969), and was adapted from Greek mythology by writer Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby. Fictional character biography Athena is the daughter of Zeus (Marvel Comics), Zeus and Metis (mythology), Metis, having emerged fully formed from her father's brow after Zeus consumed Metis in hopes of avoiding a male child who would succeed him, as he had his father. Thena (born Azura) is a character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Created by Martin A. Burnstein and Jack Kirby, the character first appeared as Minerva in ''Red Raven Comics'' #1 (August 1940), but was later reintroduced as Thena in ''The Eternals'' #5 (November 1976). She is a member of the Eternals, a race of superhumans in the Marvel Universe. She was also a member of Heroes for Hire. Bloodstrike (Image Comics)
Bloodstrike is a fictional team of action/adventure super agents, originally published by Rob Liefeld's Extreme Studios of Image Comics in the 1990s. Bloodstrike is a top-secret, super-powered assassination squad deployed covertly by the United States government. All of the members had already died before becoming members of the team, and were brought back to life by the government's Project: Born Again. Publication history ''Bloodstrike'' #1 was cover dated April 1993 and the series ran for 22 issues. There was a special issue 25 printed (after issue 10) as part of the "Images of Tomorrow" event that ran through several titles being published by Image at the time. ''Warheads'' was a Marvel UK comic book series which ran for 14 issues in the early 1990s (January 1992–May 1993) and was followed by the two-issue mini-series ''Warheads: Black Dawn''. The stories contained in the comic were also serialised in the UK comics anthology '' Overkill''. The Warheads were mercenaries employed by the nefarious and Faustian Mys-Tech organisation to capture advanced technology or mystical artifacts from alien worlds, time periods, or other dimensions. The book had guest appearances, such as the X-Men, Silver Surfer, Mephisto, X-Force, and agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. It features many backup 'flashback' stories.
