Hugh Howard (politician)
Hugh Howard (7 February 1675 – 17 March 1737) was a portrait-painter and collector of works of art from Dublin. Biography Hugh Howard was born in Dublin on 7 February 1675. He was the eldest son of Ralph Howard of Shelton, county Wicklow. He came with his father to England in 1688, and showing a taste for painting joined in 1697 the suite of Thomas Herbert, eighth earl of Pembroke, one of the plenipotentiaries for the treaty of Ryswyck, on a journey through Holland to Italy. Howard remained in Italy about three years studying with Carlo Maratti who has been described as the last painter in the Raphael tradition. Howard returning to the British Isles in October 1700 and he then resided in Dublin. Howard settled in London eventually, where he practised for some time as a portrait-painter. Howard was appointed to the sinecure post of keeper of the state papers, and then paymaster of the works belonging to the crown. He was thus enabled to relinquish painting as a profession. ... Edward Tighe
Edward Tighe (1740-1801) was an Irish lawyer, writer and politician, who represented a number of constituencies in the Irish House of Commons. The son of William Tighe, MP for Wexford then for Wicklow, and Mary Bligh (daughter of John Bligh, 1st Earl of Darnley), he was educated at Eton College, and St. John's College, Cambridge, and called to the English bar in 1759 and the Irish bar in 1776. Political career Tighe was first elected to the Irish parliament for Belturbet, Co. Cavan, in 1763, elected for Wicklow Burrough (succeeding his brother Richard William Tighe) in 1768, then Athboy Co. Meath, from 1776 (succeeding his elder brother William Tighe) until 1773 when he represented Wicklow Borough again until 1797. John Crosbie, 2nd Earl Of Glandore
John Crosbie, 2nd Earl of Glandore PC, FRS (25 May 1753 – 23 October 1815), styled Viscount Crosbie between 1777 and 1781, was an Irish politician. Crosbie was the only surviving son of William Crosbie, 1st Earl of Glandore, by his first wife Lady Theodosia, daughter of John Bligh, 1st Earl of Darnley. He was educated at Trinity College, Cambridge. In 1775 he was returned to the Irish House of Commons for Athboy. The following year he was elected for both Tralee and Ardfert. He chose to sit for the latter, and held the seat until 1781, when he succeeded his father in the earldom and entered the Irish House of Lords. He was sworn of the Irish Privy Council in 1785. In 1789, he was appointed Joint Master of the Rolls in Ireland alongside the Earl of Carysfort. They both held the post until 1801. John Bligh, 3rd Earl of Darnley (1 October 1719 – 31 July 1781), styled '' The Hon. John Bligh'' between 1721 and 1747, lord of the Manor of Cobham, Kent, was a British parliamentarian. Background Bligh was the son of John Bligh, 1st Earl of Darnley and Lady Theodosia Hyde, later Baroness Clifton (in her own right). He was born in 1719, near Gravesend, Kent, and at the age of eight was sent to Westminster School. He matriculated at Merton College on 13 May 1735 and was created MA on 13 July 1738. Political career Bligh served as Member of Parliament (MP) for Maidstone from 1741 to 1747 and for Athboy in the Irish House of Commons from 1739 to 1747. Robert Clive Napper (born 25 February 1966) is an English serial killer and rapist. He has been convicted of two murders, one manslaughter, two rapes, and two attempted rapes. He was sentenced to indefinite detention at Broadmoor Hospital on 18 December 2008 for the manslaughter of Rachel Nickell on 15 July 1992.
