St Athan
St Athan ( cy, Sain Tathan) is a village and community in the Vale of Glamorgan in South Wales. The village and its parish church are dedicated to Saint Tathan. The church dates to the 13th–14th century, though an earlier church was dated to the Norman period. The village and the adjacent dormitory village of Eglwys Brewis are known primarily for the MOD St Athan RAF base. There are two pubs in the village, as well as a football team at St Athan Football Club and the St Athan Golf Club. The community includes West Aberthaw. Geography Located in the Vale of Glamorgan, St Athan lies off the B4265 road, roughly by road northwest of downtown Barry. Athan George Theoharis (August 3, 1936 – July 3, 2021) was an American historian, professor of history at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. As well as his extensive teaching career, he was noteworthy as an expert on the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), J. Edgar Hoover, and U.S. intelligence agencies, having written and edited many books on these and related subjects. Athan Karras (September 27, 1927 – February 12, 2010) was a Greek-born American dancer, instructor and actor. Early life Karras was born in Thessaloniki, Greece. He came to the United States when he was about 12. Athan Catjakis (May 22, 1931 – January 20, 2022) was an American politician, Catjakis was born in Springfield, Massachusetts, and graduated from Springfield Technical High School. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. A member of the Democratic Party, Catjakis began his political career as chief of staff to mayor William C. Sullivan. Sullivan subsequently appointed Catjakis to Springfield Housing Authority. In 1979, Catjakis became a legislative aide to Arthur J. McKenna. Catjakis worked for McKenna for five years, until McKenna announced his retirement from politics in 1984. Catjakis ran for McKenna's open seat on the Massachusetts House of Representatives, and served until the end of his fourth term in 1992, when he was succeeded by his former legislative aide Dennis M. Athan Iannucci (born April 15, 1982) is a professional lacrosse player. He played collegiate lacrosse at Hofstra University. Iannucci played professional lacrosse for the Colorado Mammoth of the National Lacrosse League. He was a member of the now defunct St. Regis Indians of the Ontario Lacrosse Association's Senior-A Major Series Lacrosse. He plays in the summer months for the WLA Langley Thunder. Athanasios Demetrios Maroulis (born September 22, 1964) is an actor, vocalist and record producer born in Brooklyn, New York. He is the older brother of singer Constantine Maroulis and also has a sister, Anastasia. Athan Maroulis formed the New York-based group Fahrenheit 451 (1984–1986), with whom he recorded his first commercially available album.
