Athamanika
Athamanika or Tzoumerka (Greek: Αθαμανικά or Τζουμέρκα) is a mountain range in northwestern Greece, part of the wider Pindus mountain range. Its highest point is the mountain Kakarditsa, at 2,429 m. Its length is approximately 40 km from north to south and its width is approximately 15 to 20 km from east to west. The only major road crossing the Athamanika is the Greek National Road 30 (Arta - Trikala - Karditsa - Volos). Geography The Athamanika is situated on the borders of the regional units of Arta, Ioannina, Karditsa and Trikala. It covers (part of) the municipalities North Tzoumerka, Central Tzoumerka, Pyli and Argithea. It has a low population density. Forests dominate the low-lying areas of the mountain. Pindus
The Pindus (also Pindos or Pindhos; el, Πίνδος, Píndos; sq, Pindet; rup, Pindu) is a mountain range located in Northern Greece and Southern Albania. It is roughly 160 km (100 miles) long, with a maximum elevation of 2,637 metres (8652') (Mount Smolikas). Because it runs along the border of Thessaly and Epirus, the Pindus range is known colloquially as the ''spine of Greece''. Arta ( el, Περιφερειακή ενότητα Άρτας) is one of the regional units of Greece. It is part of the Epirus region. Its capital is the town of Arta. Geography The regional unit of Arta is located north of the Ambracian Gulf. The main mountain ranges are the Athamanika in the northeast, the Pindus in the east, and Valtou in the southeast. Only one mountain road links Arta with the Pineios valley and Thessaly. There are low-lying agricultural plains in the west. Arta borders on the regional units of Preveza in the west, Ioannina to the north, Trikala in the east, Karditsa to the east and Aetolia-Acarnania to the south. Greek National Road 30
National Road 30 ( el, Εθνική Οδός 30, abbreviated as EO30) is a single carriageway road in central Greece. It connects the cities of Arta and Volos, via Trikala and Karditsa. Route The western end of the Greek National Road 30 is in Arta, where it is connected with GR-5. It runs northeast through the sparsely populated Athamanika mountains, until it reaches the town Pyli, where it enters the Thessalian Plain. At Trikala it connects with the GR-6, and turn southeast towards Karditsa, where it turns east. The section between Neo Monastiri and Farsala is shared with the GR-3. The Motorway 1 is crossed at Mikrothives. At Nea Anchialos the GR-30 reaches the coast of the Pagasetic Gulf. Arachthos (river)
The Arachthos ( el, Άραχθος) is a river in eastern Epirus, Greece. Its source is in the Pindus mountains, near the town Metsovo ( Ioannina regional unit). It is long, and its drainage area is . Its upper course is known as '' Metsovitikos''. From its confluence with the Dipotamos near the village of Batza it is called Arachthos. It flows towards the south, passing between the Athamanika and the Xerovouni mountains. In this place meets the Plaka Bridge, the largest one-arch stone bridge in Greece. It enters the large Pournari Reservoir, in the Arta regional unit, which is about 18 km² and prevents flooding of the city of Arta and also supplies water to most of Epirus.
