Astronoid
Astronoid is a post-metal band from Lowell, Massachusetts, formed in 2012. Started by vocalist Brett Boland and bassist Daniel Schwartz, the current lineup includes Boland, Schwartz, guitarist Casey Aylward, and drummer Matt St. Jean. They have released two extended plays, ''November'' (2012) and ''Stargazer'' (2013), and three studio albums, ''Air (Astronoid album), Air'' (2016), the eponymous ''Astronoid (album), Astronoid'' (2019) and ''Radiant Bloom'' (2022). History The band started as a studio project between vocalist Brett Boland and bassist Daniel Schwartz. Boland had previously played in Morning Glory (band), Morning Glory. They recorded two songs, which were released as the ''November'' EP, on May 11, 2012. The second song on the EP "Astronoid" featured guest vocals from Nick Thornbury of Vattnet, Vattnet Viskar. ''Astronoid'' is the second studio album by post-metal band Astronoid, released in 2019 by Blood Music. Background Astronoid's previous album ''Air'', was a critical success, landing on several year end best of lists. After the band finished touring, they began working on their second album. The album was announced in November 2018, with "I Dream in Lines" serving as the lead single. The album's second single, "A New Color", was released on January 11, 2019. Background After releasing an EP ''Stargazer'' in 2013, vocalist Brett Boland and bassist Daniel Schwartz recruited guitarists Casey Aylward and Mike DeMelia and drummer Matt St. Jean to create a full band lineup. After forming the full band, the group was signed to Blood Music. The band was inspired by Devin Townsend, Ihsahn, and Emperor during this time. The band released the songs "Air" and "Up and Atom" to promote the album before its release. Style The band's label described their sound as "Dream Thrash". Zeal & Ardor is a Swiss avant-garde metal band started and led by Manuel Gagneux, a Swiss-American musician who had previously created a chamber pop project called Birdmask. Formed in 2013, the band mixes sounds of African-American spirituals with black metal. Initially a solo project, the band signed with MVKA records in 2016 and expanded to a full lineup, with Gagneux on vocals and guitar, backing vocalists Denis Wagner and Marc Obrist, guitarist Tiziano Volante, bassist Mia Rafaela Dieu, and drummer Marco Von Allmen. Mew are a Danish alternative rock band, consisting of Jonas Bjerre (lead vocals), Johan Wohlert (bass) and Silas Utke Graae Jørgensen (drums).
