Astrid (application)
Astrid was a multi-platform to-do list and task management application that was created in San Francisco, CA in 2008. It was identified by the company's octopus icon. The service reminded users of scheduled tasks and was designed for limited integration with Google Calendar. Yahoo! acquired the company on May 1, 2013 and shuttered the Astrid service on August 5, 2013. History In 2008, Tim Su and Jon Paris co-founded Astrid in San Francisco, CA. In 2011, Astrid attend the AngelPad startup accelerator. Later that year, they raised a seed round of venture capital from Google Ventures having had 1.5 million downloads and 250,000 monthly active users. In May 2013, Astrid co-founder and CEO Jon Paris announced on the company's blog on May 1 that Yahoo! had acquired Astrid. Google Calendar is a time-management and scheduling calendar service developed by Google. It became available in beta release April 13, 2006, and in general release in July 2009, on the web and as mobile apps for the Android and iOS platforms. Google Calendar allows users to create and edit events. Reminders can be enabled for events, with options available for type and time. Event locations can also be added, and other users can be invited to events. Users can enable or disable the visibility of special calendars, including Birthdays, where the app retrieves dates of births from Google contacts and displays birthday cards on a yearly basis, and Holidays, a country-specific calendar that displays dates of special occasions. AngelPad is an American seed-stage startup incubator, launched in September 2010 by Thomas Korte and Carine Magescas with six other former Google employees as mentors. AngelPad provides mentorship, seed money, and networking at two 10-week courses per year. AngelPad attracted attention in August 2011 after announcing that each of its startups will have the option to accept $100,000 from two venture capital firms at the start of their class. Wunderlist is a discontinued cloud-based task management application. It allowed users to create lists to manage their tasks from a smartphone, tablet, computer and smartwatch. Wunderlist was free; additional collaboration features were available in a paid version known as Wunderlist Pro, released April 2013.
