Astria Regional Medical Center
Astria Regional Medical Center was a 150-bed hospital located in Yakima, Washington. This hospital was a Level III adult trauma center. Astria Regional Medical Center closed January 13, 2020. History On August 2, 1891, the Sisters of Charity of Providence agreed to take care of sick government workers and the residents of Yakima, thus creating Yakima's first and only hospital, a distinction that was held for more than 59 years. The first hospital was a 7-room house on the corner of Yakima and Naches Avenues. The hospital cared for 37 patients the first year, and within a year the hospital moved to a larger building to keep up with the capacity. St. Elizabeth's grew from performing their first surgery on a kitchen table in the 1890s to opening the first coronary care unit in the state in the 1960s and the region's first comprehensive inpatient rehabilitation facility in the 1980s. A coronary care unit (CCU) or cardiac intensive care unit (CICU) is a hospital ward specialized in the care of patients with heart attacks, unstable angina, cardiac dysrhythmia and (in practice) various other cardiac conditions that require continuous monitoring and treatment. Yakima YWCA
The YWCA Building, now the Chateau Yakima, is a historic Young Women's Christian Association building in downtown Yakima, Washington. It was completed in 1935 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1993. History Founded in 1909, the Yakima YWCA originally rented the second floor of Sawbridge's Hardware Store and used the gym from the First Baptist Church. In 1920, the YWCA purchased the land for the building but they were not able to break ground until 1934, when a local businessperson Alexander Miller donated $80,000 toward the effort. The building opened the next year and offered job placement, a gym, a library, temporary housing, and inexpensive meals to young women. After the YWCA vacated the building, it became the "Chateau Yakima", where the former common areas are rented for events while other sections are used as a coworking space. It is owned by Sinclair Broadcast Group alongside low-power, Class A Univision affiliate KUNW-CD (channel 2). Both stations share studios on Terrace Heights Boulevard (east of I-82) in Yakima, while KIMA-TV's transmitter is located on Ahtanum Ridge.
